U.S. Senator Alfonse M. D'Amato

U.S. Senator Alfonse M. D'Amato from Island Park, Long Island, New York has been a supporter of the legendary STONEWALL Rebellion Veterans Association ("S.V.A.") since he first campaigned for -- and won -- public office for U.S. Senator from the Mid- and South Shore of Nassau County in Long Island in 1980.  The STONEWALL Veterans' Association founder Willson L. Henderson lived and was promonent in the town next door -- Long Beach -- and was significantly helpful in Al's upset win!  "Senator Al" maintains communication with the S.V.A. through the SVA's continued outreach to former and current public official supporters via mail, fax and e-mail as well as through mutual colleagues and political friends.  Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch -- the longtime Honorary Male Chairperson of the S.V.A. (from 1969 to 2013) -- and Senator Al had a popular weekly political segment on New York 1 News television (channel 1 in New York City).  The lively political show is appropriately entitled "Inside City Politics".  Their segment was cleverly called "The Wise Guys".  Each week they had a third person, frequently former New York City council speaker Peter Vallone, Sr. or former congressman Vito Fossella from Staten Island join them as the guest "Wise Guy".  They discuss and analyze New York political events and politicians of the day.  The tell-it-like-it-is and interesting segment airs every Tuesday evening @ 7 p.m. and encores @ 10 p.m.  Update (February 2013):  Since the passing of Senator Al's truly great ally and longtime friend, Ed Koch, the second "Wise Guy" has also been rotated, sometimes with former Bronx borough president Alfonso J. Carrion, Jr., or former NYC council speaker and failed mayoral candidate Alan Gifford "Giffy" Miller.
The senator remains admirable of the S.V.A. organization and its fearless leader Willson Henderson!

Antoinette "Mama" D'Amato Dies at 99!

'Mama' Antoinette D'Amato ("ADA") had the "Spirit of Stonewall" long before Stonewall!  She stood up and spoke her mind!  Many members of the STONEWALL Veterans' Association, including Williamson Henderson, Leigh McManus, Kevin Baxter, Roger Fulop and Joey Destio, knew Al D'Amato's mother Antoinette from her son's campaigns in Long Island starting in Nassau County in 1976 and 1978 for Hempstead Town Supervisor and in 1980, 1988, 1992 and 1998 for U.S. Senator from New York.  With Mama D'Amato's well-publicized public appearance help and her Italian cooking recipes, 'Sonny Boy' Al won all the campaigns!  Read the full story on ADA at:
