STONEWALL Veterans' Association:  'Go Fund Us'!

As The Beatles's number one song conveys: "H.E.L.P."!  There are endless reasons why you,
or your business or your organization should "H-E-L-P" the volunteer, non-profit STONEWALL
Veterans' Association
("S.V.A.") during this extremely difficult world health sickening and deadly
epidemic and the dire economic consequences it has caused, particularly, for non-profit groups!
The Gay boys and the Gay girls and their Straight friends at the original STONEWALL Club
are the ones who started the historic uprising -- not the inanimate, rented commercial storefront!

Therefore, the most important is preserving the real history of the actual participants in the
 launching of the modern G.L.B.T. rights movement known as the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion!
In other words, respect and support the people as represented exclusively for a half-century
by the voluntary, non-profit National STONEWALL Rebellion Veterans Association --
not the rented, self-serving, for-profit, greedy, non-Gay owned "Stonewall" storefront!

The 'Go Fund Us' site includes a rarified slideshow of fascinating vintage photographs of
members of the STONEWALL Veterans' Association, all of whom were victims of the
anti-Gay New York City Police Department raids on the original STONEWALL Club or the
historic five-night 1969 Stonewall Rebellion!  As an authentic treat, you will hear
background
music of a #1 girl group song from the original STONEWALL Bar & Dance Club Jukebox!

Supporting the S.V.A. now will ensure our educational programs, our outreach services and our existence!

  Stonewall Jukebox 411:  In the "Stonewall Era" -- and before and after --
 patrons at clubs and bars got to hear what they wanted to hear by dropping
  a quarter in the jukebox.  "Perennial favorites" at The Stonewall were not
   all in the jukebox at once!  Quantity-wise, it would have been impossible.
  However, upon request from known patrons to the owners, different songs
    would be put back into the fab Stonewall Jukebox '80' selections regularly.
 Like the Gay kids, the Mafia boys had an even greater yen for the strong,
 cultural and passionate sounds of Italian-American singers Frank Sinatra
 (#1 male) and Connie Francis (#1 female) and a real affinity for anything
                         by the talented, sultry and good-looking white girl group The Shangri-Las!

"Where The Boys Are"
a.k.a. "Gay National Anthem"
-- the closing song at The Stonewall Club every night!
by Miss Connie Francis

Where the Boys are, someone waits for me.
A smilin' face, a warm embrace,
Two arms to hold me tenderly.

Where the Boys are, my true love will be.
He's walkin' down... some street in town
And I know He's lookin' there for me!

In the crowd of a million people,
I'll find my Valentine.
And then I'll climb to the highest church steeple
and teIl the world He's mine!

Till He holds me, I'll wait impatiently.
Where the Boys are, where the Boys are;
Where the Boys are, someone waits for me!

Tilllllll... He holds me, I'll wait... impatiently.
Where the Boys are... where the Boys are;
Where the Boys are... someone... waits... for... Me!

"I Know A Place"
-- dedicated to The Stonewall Club
by Petula Clark

Every day when the work is behind you
And the shop and the store put the lock on the door
Just get away where your worries won't find you
If you like, well... I'll tell you more!

Don't let the day get the better of you
When the evening comes, there's so much to do
You better put on your best and wear a smile
Just come along with me awhile!

'Cause I tell you, I know a place
Where the music is fine
And the lights are always low
I know a place where we can go!

At the door there's a man who will greet you
Then you go downstairs to some tables and chairs
Soon I'm sure you'll be tappin' your feet
Because the beat is the greatest there!

All around there are girls and Boys,
It's a swingin' place, a cellar full of noise;
It's got an atmosphere of it's own some how,
You gotta come along right now!

"Follow The Boys"
-- The Stonewall Club jukebox's opening song every evening!
by Miss Connie Francis

I'll follow the Boys... wherever They go
I'll follow the Boys... 'cause in my heart I'll know;
I know that somewhere, somewhere along the way
I'll find my love, my own true love, some day!

And there'll be no place too far, no ocean too wide
Wherever He goes, I'll be right by His side;
I'll follow the Boys and wait until the time
Till that Boy that I'm following... is mine!

There'll be no place too far, no ocean too wide
Wherever He goes, I'll be right by His side
So, I'll follow the Boys and wait until the time
Till that ~wonderful~ Boy that I'm following... is... mine!

Stonewall Musical Tributes

*  Lesley Gore  *

Lesley Sue Gore, born in Brooklyn, New York City, raised in Tenafly, New Jersey, and died in Manhattan, NY, was only 16 years young when she recorded her #1 international hit song "It's My Party".  Other hits of Lesley include the following:  "Judy's Turn To Cry" {#4}, "She's A Fool" {#5}, "That's The Way Boys Are" {#10}, "Maybe I Know" {#13}, "(Isn't That) The Look Of Love", "All Of My Life (I've Been Looking For A Love Like You)", "Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows", "My Town, My Guy And Me" and "California Nights" (also a hit at the original Stonewall Club in 1967).  Lesley's most unique and significant hit song is "You Don't Own Me".  It was not a pop teenage nor dance song yet was #1 nonetheless.  "YDOM" evolved as a feminist anthem for five decades and continues as such throughout the world.  It was later featured and re-launched in the hit movie "First Wives Club" (1996) starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.  Lesley's first baker's dozen single-release records were effectively produced by the now legendary Quincy Jones as were most of her album songs.  Many of Lesley's songs were so cross-over that they charted on R&B lists.  Because of her 'pop', girl group and soul combo in sound, years later, Lesley was hired by Berry Gordy and signed to Motown Records in 1972.  Her record stablemates included Diana RossSmokey Robinson, Martha Reeves and Michael Jackson & The Jackson Five.  Besides Grammy Award nominations, Lesley was nominated for an Oscar, along with her brother Michael Gore, for co-writing "Out Here on My Ownfrom 1980’s movieFame".  Lesley was portrayed by wonderful Pattie Darcy in the Broadway musical "Leader Of The Pack" (1985), the musical life story of the songs of Ellie Greenwich, starring Darlene Love as Herself, featuring LSG's hit songs "Maybe I Know" and "Look Of Love", both written by mutual (and the SVA's) friend Ellie of the Brill Building fame.  The show, which Lesley attended and reunioned backstage, was nominated as "best musical".  Not only was Lesley a singer, a songwriter and a musician (piano) but she was an actress.  In 1965, Lesley was in two movies "Ski Party" and "The Girls On The Beach" in which she acted and sang.  Over thirty years later, Lesley starred on Broadway in the acclaimed "Smokey Joe's Cafe" musical, about the music of Leiber & Stoller, in 1996.  Lesley's flipside single hits include "Sometimes I Wish I Were A Boy", double entendre to say the least, "That's The Way The Ball Bounces", an early penned song by Marvin Hamlisch, and the wonderfully-penned song by Carole King, "(Oh, How I Miss) The Old Crowd", a bouncy song spiced with fun nostalgia about friends who miss each other, a fitting tribute to Lesley now!  We miss U!  Besides her longtime supportive mother Ronnie Gore and music industry brother Michael, and many other entertainment friends such as Helen Hooke, Lesley is survived by her Gay girlfriend of 33 incredible years Lois Sasson!  Lesley shall live forever through her memorable music!

Stonewall Songstress Tribute
*
Cilla Black  *

 Songstress Cilla Black, born Priscilla White, is British.  Like The Beatles, she was born in Liverpool in the same era.  The Beatles' openly-Gay manager Brian Epstein (of NYC) got Cilla her first record contract.  Cilla's powerful remake of Dionne Warwick's hit "Anyone Who Had A Heart" went to #1 in England.  The Beatles were friends with Cilla for decades.  Her first single record and many others were written by Lennon & McCartney.  One of her other super powerful songs, "You're My World" was number one in Europe and charted in America.  Originally, the Italian song was entitled "Il Mio Mundo".  It was a huge hit in the Gay bars.  At The Stonewall Club the song was frequently acted out.  The dramatic song has lyrics like, "You're my world, you're my night and day... without you I would die!", how could it not be?  Cilla belted it out!  Her original version of the Burt Bacharach movie song "(What's It All About) Alfie" was a big hit in Europe.  In America, the song belonged to Dionne Warwick in 1967.  Cilla's book is entitled "What's It All About?".  Besides her singing career, Cilla remained in the entertainment industry as an actress and as the host of a few popular British television shows.  She had her own television variety program "Cilla" on which she sang and had outstanding musical guests.  The SVA's director Willson L. Henderson submitted "You're My World" as a possible finale song for the "STONEWALL!" film in 2015.  Cilla passed away at her vacation home in Spain.  Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr released separate heartfelt press releases on the sudden loss.  Miss Cilla Black was a real showbiz icon for a half-century in the United Kingdom.  She was a singing sensation as evidenced at The Stonewall and every Gay bar and club throughout the World!  Cilla, here is your tribute song:  "You're Our World"!  See a Cilla album cover photo and some discography at SVA's website at the "Songs of The Stonewall Club" (#5) at:  www.STONEWALLvets.org/songsofStonewall-5.htm.
