wall". This month's ad states our S.V.A. holiday message originated decades ago by

Monday, December 17 -- BROADWAY
CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS PRESENTS "GYPSY-OF-THE-YEAR" COMPETITION
SHOW
Professionally described as
"...possibly the season's most dazzling talent show", the Gypsy-of-the-Year competition
spectacular show features New York's most talented "gypsies" (chorus members from
Broadway and Off-Broadway shows) in a competitive variety show. The Broadway Cares
event is the culmination of fund-raising during which shows On- and Off-Broadway --
including national tours -- engage in a fiercely friendly competition to see which show
can raise the most donations to BC/EFA. Awards are presented to the shows
raising the most funds and the shows giving the most impressive 'live'
performances.
BC/EFA's Executive Director
Tom Viola is the seasoned producer of
the exciting show. Williamson Henderson
heads up the attending S.V.A. contingency. The 19th annual
"Gypsy-of-the-Year" show benefiting BC/EFA happens on Monday, December 17, 2007
@ 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday, December 18, 2007 @ 2 p.m. "GOTY" is held at

Sunday, December 9 -- GAY POLITICAL
FUNERAL for BOB
KOHLER
The symbolic service for the
legendary Bob Kohler happens at the Gay
Community Center on West 13th Street Avenue in Greenwich Village. Bi the
way, Bob despised that alphabet soup GLBTIQ non-sense. He sensibly stated that
"one community should have one name not five"! The shindig starts @ 4 p.m.
Immediately after, there is a march down Gay Christopher Street to the Hudson River
Piers. For more 411, visit www.GayCenter.org.
Wednesday, December 5 -- GAY ACTIVIST BOB KOHLER DIES at 81
Bob Kohler was a longtime activist
and friend of the STONEWALL Veterans' Association. He never missed an S.V.A.
symposium or forum; he usually sat in the front row! Bob did not always agree
with our broad outreach and methodologies. However, he was supportive and
complimentary. Bob was the handome gentleman with the full head of hair and the crystal blue eyes.
Recently, on a Saturday afternoon during Indian Summer, S.V.A. President
Williamson Henderson and Bob had one of their
sit-down talks in a triangular rest area on Hudson Street in Greenwich Village.
Every month, Bob received a personal invitation phone call from the S.V.A.'s Terri Van Dyke, Dave West, Electra
O'Mara or Bert Coffman to attend the
next S.V.A. meeting. He appreciated
that thoughtfulness.
Bob never forgot that 13 years earlier when he had a near-fatal heart attack during
Gay Pride Month in 1994, it was Williamson who set aside time amidst all of the
"Stonewall 25" demands and activities to visit him in the hospital. Most everyone
else was "too busy". That was the only year Bob couldn't participate in Gay
Pride. Bob was a genuine and effective Gay activist who earned the right to be
remembered!
Monday, December 3, 2007 -- COMMUNITY
BOARD HEARING REGARDING STREETFAIRS
This is an annual review of the streetfairs
which happen in the Greenwich Village area. All streetfair sponsors require an

of the S.V.A. is its founder and president Williamson
Henderson, who is also a longtime "Village" resident since 1969.
The S.V.A. is the one organization whose history, activities and members have
netted millions of dollars for the City of New York and on an annual basis!
Other Gay groups testifying why they need their streetfair monies are SDC,
GLID and LCR. Todd Berman of Clearview
Productions, the city's largest streetfair promoter, delivers the general economic and
social advantages of community streetfairs to the city, the public and the sponsoring
groups. The hearings happen at New York University's Goddard Hall at 79 Washington
Square East in the East Village. Streetfair testimonies start @ 6:45 p.m.
Attending SVA-ers may join Todd and Williamson after the CB-2 hearings
for cheddar cheeseburgers, onion rings and milk shakes at Johnny Rockets Diner

SWEDEN" PARTY TO PROMOTE GAY TOURISM
The officers of the S.V.A. has been personally invited to attend a kick-off

Ritz Lounge on Restaurant Row on West 46th Street near Ninth Avenue in Clinton.
The European hors d'oeuvres start serving and the Gay cocktails start pouring @ 6

later, the torch is passed to Bella's gay daughter Liz J. Abzug to do
the heading up! There will be many special guests attending and/or speaking at
this conference. Workshops such as "Smashing The Glass Ceiling" and "The Politics
of Gender and Sexuality" are part of the weekend's events. Both days begin

It includes a weblink to BALI.
Tuesday, November 6 -- "STONEWALL
PHOTOGRAPHER" FRED W. McDARRAH DIES @ 81
Symbolically known as the "Stonewall Photographer", the
fact is that Fred
McDarrah did not take any photos during any of the five nights of
the Stonewall Rebellion in 1969. If Fred was there and had
he -- or anyone else --
attempted such, his camera would have been smashed and, likewise, the
shutterbug!
Photos during the Gay rebellion, where closeted Gays did not
want to be seen, were forbidden. Mr. McDarrah, who worked at
The
Village Voice up the block, had some unknown people pose
unimposedly with
smiley faces and do so safely subsequent to the rebellion
when The
Stonewall Inn was closed. Even that is clear from the photo.
This was the week (now July) before the
club reopened. The strangers in
the photo were not at the rebellion. No one could identify anyone
in the staged
photo. It is doubtful that any were ever at The Stonewall.
Mr. McDarrah died in his sleep at his home in Greenwich
Village only hours after his 81st birthday. Ironically,
a popular song at
The Stonewall was called "Do The 81".
Wednesday, October 31 -- 34th ANNUAL GREENWICH
VILLAGE HALLOWEEN PARADE

televises the parade 'live' on local Channel 1 in NYC as of 8 p.m. until

Tuesday, October 16 -- ELLA LEGGETTE,
FRIEND of S.V.A., DIES at 49
Cecile "Ella" Leggette (49) was a longtime
and active lovely friend of the S.V.A. She bravely dealt with a long, on/off,
semi-rare disease known as sarcoidosis. Since "Stonewall 25" on stage in Central
Park in 1994, Miss Ella, as she is popularly known, never missed a "Stonewall
Showtime" starring her special friend Queen
Allyson. She looked forward to gussying up for such entertaining
theatrical events. Ella is survived by her daughters Sharonella Leggette (33) and Natasha Singleton (27) as well as four young grandchildren
(two from each) namely Starquesha (16)
and Marquis (10) and Kiera (8) and Ninaloni (4). Ella is outlived by her
14-year-old cat Luv Bug and her
13-year live-in companion Amir Qaharr,
currently of the S.V.A. Miss Ella is dearly missed by all who knew her.
There will be a special tribute dinner to Ella about the time of her
would-be 50th birthday on the 2nd of May 2008 sponsored by the S.V.A. For

Saturday, September 29 (eve) -- "PARADE WITHOUT PERMIT" PROTEST MARCH
The unauthorized but well-planned march sponsored by the Radical
Homosexual Agenda ("RHA") gathers at Tompkins Square Park after 6 p.m. amd kicks
off @ 7 p.m. It is planned to have the famous "Stonewall Car" -- well-known to the
NYCPD -- symbolically leading the protest march. One of the protest issues is the
unnecessary new law that any gathering of 50 or more people need a "parade permit"!?
What is this pre-Stonewall 1968? Shame on the City Council Speaker for
supporting such undemocratic trash! For further 411, e-mail the RHA's chief
coordinator Tim Doody at Query@RiseUp.net.
S.V.A. Editor's Note: What an absolutely treble busy day for
the S.V.A. It's like deja vu 1969!
Saturday, September 29 (afternoon) -- MONTHLY MEETING of the S.V.A. at THE
CENTER
Main discussion is the forthcoming S.V.A. Gay History Month party and S.V.A. benefit
at The Stonewall Inn on October 10th. The S.V.A. will have a full-page
advertisemebt for that event in the New York Blade. Although today is the S.V.A.'s
annual streetfair, the regular monthly meeting of the S.V.A. is held at the Gay Community
Center @ 4:15 p.m.
Saturday, September 29 (day) -- STONEWALL STREETFAIR in GREENWICH
VILLAGE
The
annual Stonewall streetfair sponsored by the STONEWALL Veterans' Associatioin ("S.V.A.")
takes place in Greenwich Village on the 29th -- the same day as the S.V.A. meeting.
U can come to both!! PRIDE Democrats and other GLBT organizations -- besides
the S.V.A. -- have informational tables staffed by their members. The S.V.A. tables
are also set up for homemade food such as fried chicken, macaroni salad and cole
slaw plus for dessert... BBM cherry cake -- all by Dora Deelite.
Trust us, the food dishes are only
provided to good-standing members of the S.V.A. On display only at this
streetfair is the famous 1969 "Stonewall Car" convertible. It's real
eye-candy for the cameras. The same yearly location is on Greenwich Avenue from
Seventh Avenue (near St. Vincent's Hospital) to Avenue of the Americas. The
streetfair spans several blocks also including Perry Street, Charles Street, West
10th Street and Christopher Street. This free event is open to the general public.
Opening time is @ 10 a.m. and closing is @ 6 p.m. For display or
technical 411, call Madam DiBella at

Tuesday, September 25 -- LIZ ABZUG, S.V.A. HONORARY MEMBER, HONORED
with GAY AWARD
Liz Abzug is being honored with her longtime advocacy of
and work for the Gay community. The appropriate Gay women's venue is Henrietta
Hudson Lounge at 438 (Baby Jane) Hudson Street. The bar is located at the
corner of Morton Street and near Barrow Street in Greenwich Village.
Weather-permitting, the famous 1969 "Stonewall Car" -- more than once habitted by
Liz's parents -- will be on display. The fun
begins 6 p.m.
Sunday, September 23 -- S.V.A. and
the RADICAL HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA
For the planning of their protest march on Saturday, September 29th,
their special guests today are logically members of the STONEWALL Veterans' Association.
There is no question that the S.V.A. has experience with "protests". The
Radical Homosexual Agenda ("RHA") also invited the S.V.A. today to plan protest
strategies and make arrangements for the protest march to feature the big blue
classic convertible known as the "Stonewall Car". Williamson Henderson of the S.V.A. originated the symbolic
and visible Stonewall history idea. It was quickly embraced by both
groups united in Gay respect and Gay rights cause. One of the
RHA's popular banners cleverly states: "The Stonewall Veterans didn't ask for
a parade permit!" Today's representation for the S.V.A. is headed up by
Bert Coffman. Meeting location is at Bike
Space, 49 East Houston Street in the East Village @ 4 p.m. For more 411, you
may e-mail the RHA at: WeWantYou@RiseUp.net.
Sunday, September 23 (day) -- BROADWAY CARES / EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS SPONSORS its 20th FLEA
MARKET
This popular event is a fun-filled
benefit for BC/EFA. Besides the wonderful Broadway-themed flea market, there is a
grand auction and a special Broadway-oriented streetfair. Many stars of Broadway,
off-Broadway, daytime television and dance will be participating. In fact, most
will be available for picture-taking and autograph-signing in reasonable exchange for a
worthwhile donation to BC/EFA. The events happen in Shubert Alley and on West 44th
Street from Broadway to Eighth Avenue in midtown Manhattan. Many members of the
S.V.A. are attending. BC/EFA's Flea Market is directed by dexterous Tom Viola. The excitement is all day from 10 a.m.
to 7 p.m. Williamson Henderson leads the
enthusiastic S.V.A. contingency. For further 411, please visit the
fascinating Broadway Cares website at www.BCEFA.org.
Thursday, September 20 -- MEETING at GOVERNOR SPITZER'S OFFICE w/
S.V.A.
This is what one would refer to as another full circle in our longtime relationship with
Eliot L. Spitzer -- prior to his being in public
office. Which Gay group did he first meet with? No, not them! They were
very "Johnny and Janey come lately -- and hungry". The unequivocal answer is the
STONEWALL Veterans' Association. The meeting is at the Gov's office on Third
Avenue @ 3 p.m.
Tuesday, September 18 -- FORUM
with NYS LIEUT. GOV. DAVID A. PATERSON
Former New York State Senator and current N.Y.S. Lieutenant Governor David A. Paterson is a fervent supporter of the STONEWALL
Veterans' Association. We always look forward to seeing him and chatting up in
person. This event is sponsored by the Democratic Leadership in the 21st Century
("DL-21C") organization. The seminar is supported by the S.V.A.
Confirmed SVA-ers include Williamson
Henderson, Bob Diamond, Gregg
Castillo and Ruth Campbell. The
hostess with the mostest is DL-21C's delightful president Elizabeth Caputo. Event location is the accommodating

visit www.DL21C.org.

Island. Williamson Henderson and

Assemblymember Matt Titone and his Chief of Staff
Keith. The meeting is scheduled @ 3 p.m. --
give or take a ferry.
Sunday, September 16 -- COLUMBUS
AVENUE STREETFAIR
This streetfair is one of the biggest in the City for 16 blocks along
Columbus Avenue from West 69th Street to West 86 Street. The S.V.A. joins DL-21C
and PRIDE Democrats in having informational tables at this streetfair. The all day
event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday, "September 11th" -- 6-YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the HATEFUL ATTACKS on
AMERICA
This is
the exact day and date on a Tuesday the 11th of September of the four (4) attacks on
America -- chiefly aimed at the commercial and civilian borough of Manhattan,
New York, in addition to Washington, D.C., and, alas, Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The four airliner flights hijacked and tragically doomed were American
Airlines flight #11, United Airlines #175, American Airlines #77 amd United Airlines #
93. To commemorate this absolute worst day in American history, the STONEWALL
Veterans' Association is completely closed. We encourage everyone to
remember the victims -- killed or injured -- and participate in their
reflection at the memorials at the scenes or other tributes or via expansive
television and radio coverage of the day's events.
The S.V.A. is totally closed to commemorate the saddest occasion in American history
and to remember the approximate 3,000 victims murdered at four locations on
September 11th, 2001, and the continuing rescuer victims who die from health-related
conditions at the devastated World Trade Center site in New York City after the cowardly
and despicable attacks on the magnificent Twin Towers.
The Twin Towers Alliance (TTA) has created an outstanding and unforgettable collage
video entitled
"Tribute to The Twin Towers (1971 to 2001)" at: www.U-tube.com/watch/TwinTowersTribute.
Wednesday, September 5 -- DEMOCRATIC
LEADERSHIP-21-C PARTY (PART DAUX)
Sunday, September 2, 2007 -- LABOR DAY WEEKEND CARAVAN to LONG BEACH, L.I.
The blue classic Cadillac convertible leads the car caravan to
its original homeport of Long Beach by the ocean on the South Shore of Long Island.
Launching location is in front of the Gay Center in Manhattan. Rumor has
it that the caravan is being met in Long Beach by the S.V.A. Assistant of a quarter
of a century ago: Donald Ray Williams.
For details about the caravan -- not the Donald -- call the S.V.A. Assistant
of this century: AnDre C at

Saturday, August 25 -- S.V.A. MONTHLY
MEETING
Williamson Henderson presides and provides a
round-up of this month's news with many GLBT organizations and public
officials vis-a-vis the S.V.A. Today's agenda includes Betty Bristol's prior S.V.A. meeting 'minutes' to be
accepted. And, allegedly, Berti
Coffman's promised (don't count on
it) monthly Treasurer's Retort. Bob Diamond
reports on recent S.V.A. meetings with NYC and NYS policymakers. Greg Castillo updates on S.V.A. sponsor Brooklyn Historic
Railway Association and the revived trolley project in Brooklyn. One
new item of business is the planned New York State Museum tribute exhibit to
Gay history highlighting the epical 1969 "Stonewall Rebellion". Storme D referees discussions about the S.V.A.'s
October 10th Party ("10/10") at The Stonewall Inn. Shelly Vanslette
chairs suggestions regarding 10/10 advertising, mailings, flyers and, this
time, promotion by the club with two newspaper ads and posters at the club.
The guest speaker is Roger
Sirangelo representing the international Kiwanis Club, whose main
purpose is to "serve the children of the world". Kiwanians are revitalizing
neighborhoods, participating in health initiatives, establishing food pantries,
organizing youth sports programs and performing countless other projects to help children
and communities. The proposal here is opening a Kiwanis chapter in Greenwich
Village! The S.V.A. suppports this potential partnership. On display out
front of The Center
is the blue
1969 Stonewall convertible.
Quality
desserts by Dora and refreshments by
Ruthala are specially provided for this
summertime get-together. Meeting ignites @ 4:15 p.m. and simmers @
about 6 p.m. S.V.A. meetings are at the GLBT Center on West 13th Street off
Seventh Avenue. For more 411 or suggestions, please call AnDre C at (212) 6-27-1969.
Friday, August 17 -- NYS ASSEMBLYMEMBER BRIAN KAVANAGH MEETS with S.V.A.
New York State Assemblymember Brian
Kavanagh and his Chief-of-Staff Mary
Cooley host the S.V.A. representatives Williamson
Henderson and Bert Coffman. The
meeting is @ 3 p.m. at the Assemblymember's district office at 237 First Avenue with the
building entrance on East 14th Street -- just inside the border of the East
Village.
Thursday, August 16 -- MANHATTAN BOROUGH PRESIDENT SCOTT STRINGER MEETS with
S.V.A. OFFICIALS
Manhattan Borough President Scott
Stringer outreached to the S.V.A. at a recent
DL-21C event. The MBP's office called the very next day and scheduled
the overdue meeting with the S.V.A. On the agenda is the appropriate
sponsorship of the S.V.A. in the tradition of his predecessor. The Borough
President understands the importance of the S.V.A. and its history and on-going work.
Confirmed to attend from the S.V.A. are President Williamson Henderson, Treasurer Bert Coffman and Assistant AnDre Christie.
Besides the MBP, he will have several staff members in attendance. The
meeting is in the MBP's conference room at the Manhattan Municipal Building on the
19th floor @ 3 p.m.
Wednesday, August 15 -- MAYOR BLOOMBERG'S RECEPTION for DISABILITIES HONORS
AWARDS
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has
long been one of the S.V.A.'s favorite hosts. Besides the formalities and awards,
there will be a big outdoor barbeque and festive music. S.V.A.'s
posilute representatives include Williamson
Henderson, Bert Coffman, Bob Diamond, Elaine
and Cece. This private invitation affair is
at Ed Koch's and Rudy's old house (Gracie Mansion) from 5:30 p.m. to 7
p.m.
Tuesday, August 14 -- CONGRESSMAN ANTHONY WEINER'S NYC SUMMERTIME PARTY
Congressman Anthony D. Weiner --
who may be a NYC mayoral candidate in 2009 -- will be present for
the entire evening. Location is an
attractive and fun Irish tavern in midtown Manhattan. To
quote the clever host, "This is not a meeting;
it's a party!" Based on the hot, humid amd hazy weather
reports, it's a perfect evening to be indoors
with air-conditioning and cool people -- and greentinis or
the flavor of your choice. If you are an S.V.A. official or
staffer wishing to
join the party, contact Williamson or AnDre C for more 411. Bert Coffman, Betty Bristol and
Bob Diamond have already confirmed -- and the five
mentioned cover the "B"s (if you catch our drift)! See AMW staffers Marie T, Gail A, Joan O, Phil J and Eric K. The cash
bar party commences @ 7 p.m. and climaxes @ 10 p.m.
Thursday, August 9, 2007 -- S.V.A.
CONFERENCE at NYC COMPTROLLER BILL THOMPSON'S OFFICE
When N.Y.C. Comptroller Bill
Thompson greeted the Stonewallers leading the Gay Pride Parade in Brooklyn,
he promised after all these years to finally have a formal sitdown with the S.V.A.
This long overdue meeting is absent the trouble-making Gay threesome on the
Comptroller's staff. Representing the S.V.A. (on this sweltering day) are
Williamson Henderson, Bert Coffman and Bob
Diamond. The meeting occurs in the historic (and humongous) conference
room of the Comptroller's offices on the fifth floor of the Manhattan Municipal
Building at 1 Centre Street @ 3 p.m.
Post-Event Note: Unfortunately, not only was the
Comptroller not at the meeting but he did not even stick his head in the room!
Nothing that the S.V.A. requested or suggested was ever acted upon -- not even
a cost-free letter though that was also falsely promised. So,
"Mr. Bill" still did not keep his
responsibility as a public official nor his personal promise which makes him
a............!
Tuesday, July 31 --
DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP 21st CENTURY (DL-21C)
PARTY
The chief special guest is former National Democratic Party Chairperson Terry McAuliffe, who last saw members of the S.V.A.

State Democratic Co-Chair and DL-21C Founder Dave Pollak -- who saw us last week -- is the other special
guest.
Public officials confirmed to attend

Liz Krueger and Bill Perkins, Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh, Boro President Scott Stringer and Councilmember Eric Gioia and his political consultant wife Lisa Hernandez. Guitar-playing State Democratic

is the other special guest. The popular event is coordinated by exciting
DL-21C President Elizabeth Caputo. As a special muusical treat, there is live entertainment with the popular and pleasing band The Bluetones -- which features the same Dave Pollak on guitar! The
party location is The Iguana at 240 West 54th Street between Broadway and
Eighth Avenue. It parties up @ 8 p.m. and percolates well into the night.
For more 411, visit their website at www.DL21C.org.
Saturday, July
28 -- S.V.A. MONTHLY
MEETING at THE GAY CENTER
There will be a continuation of discussing the recent N.Y.C.
Gay Pride events in June that involved the S.V.A.
The chief topic at this
meeting is the S.V.A. Gay History Month party at The Stonewall on "10/10".
This time we are planning further ahead -- and more! In addition to several
SW-Vetz at this meeting, there will be several special attendees. On display out
front of the Gay Center is the blue 1969 "Stonewall Car". The S.V.A.
meeting begins @ 4:15 p.m. sharp.
The special guest speaker is the wonderful, supportive and caring Congressmember Carolyn B.
Maloney, whose big 14th Congressional District includes almost the
entire East Side of Manhattan and, crossing the East River, several towns in Queens
County such as Sunnyside, Astoria and Woodside.
Monday,
July 23 -- BBQ and PARTY with
GOVERNOR ELIOT L. SPITZER
Governor Eliot L. Spitzer's
campaign staff enthusiastically
coordinates this outdoor/indoor event. This exciting
event features plenty of great food and
multiple beverages and is replete with a live band! The
unique landmark location is the fabled 79th Street Boat Basin with the
venue overlooking the Hudson River on the
West Side of Manhattan. Williamson Henderson and AnDre Christie -- the two who ELS knows best -- are
representing the S.V.A. The invitation-only event is anchored from 6 to 8
p.m. For more 411, visit the website www.Spitzer2010.com.

traveling in he 1969 "Stonewall Car" which Jed loved -- and drove -- to visit his resting
site in Brooklyn.
Friday, July 20 -- COUNCILMEMBER JAMES
"JED" DAVIS ANNUAL TRIBUTE
Besides being an active, multi-dimensional and comprehensive New York City Councilmember
mostly from Brooklyn, the much-missed James E.
"Jed" Davis was a hands-on Honorary Member of the S.V.A. His
outgoing, energetic and smiling zest for life was appealing, inspiring and unusual.
Jed is one of those unforgettable people who are irreplaceable. The
tribute event is hosted by Jed's beloved brother Geoffrey A. Davis. Among the speakers are the
S.V.A.'s President and Jed's special friend Williamson Henderson.
The JED tribute at City Hall in Council Chambers commences @ 11 a.m. and concludes
@ 1 p.m. followed by a brunch buffet. For more info, please telephone the
James E. Davis Stop-the-Violence Foundation in Brooklyn at (718) 221-2913. The
JEDSF's fax number is (718) 221-2911. The Councilmember is very much missed.
Tuesday, July 17 -- STONEWALL DINNER in
BROOKLYN
After a significant and exciting afternoon in Lexington Heights and SoHo, Manhattan, N.Y. regarding various important
S.V.A. and non-SVA matters, Liz Abzug, Williamson and AnDre
Christie drove to Brooklyn to rendezvous with the SVA's on-the-scene reporter Vito Abzuzzoluccione
for a dishy and pricey outdoor Italian dinner! We later joined up with.... Shari Clemons!
Saturday, July 14 -- BROADWAY CARES PRESENTS: "BROADWAY BARKS (AND
MEOWS)"

plus cats and kittens. The humanitarian and fun event is produced by
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. BC/EFA's Director Tom Viola is the executive producer. "Broadway Barks

"Curtains"), Maureen McGovern, Kerry Butler ("Xanadu"), Jerry Mathers ("Hairspray"),
Lisa Renna ("Chicago"), Jo Anne Worley ("The Drousy Chaperone"), Jayne Houdyshell

AIDS victims, their best friend -- if not only friend -- is their dog or cat.
Confirmed to represent the S.V.A. are Williamson Henderson, AnDre
Christie, Elia Luciano and
Lamarr Marley. Location of the
adopt-a-thon is Shubert Alley off Broadway between West 44th and 45th Streets.

Thursday, July 12 -- THE RETURN OF WCBS-FM MUSIC RADIO
After virtually two radio-less years without
the renowned WCBS-FM playing classic Rock, Pop and Soul songs of the 1960s -- and 1970s
and 1980s -- the needless and needling nigtmare is so oooh-ver! The famous
WCBS-FM radio station, 101.1 on your dial, relaunched at precisely 1:01 p.m.
(EST). Appropriately and cleverly, the opening was effectively presented by former
New York City Mayor Ed Koch! He stated that "In politics and big business it's rare
that someone admits that they were wrong and even rarer to correct it.
WCBS has admitted that they made a very big mistake, they are sorry and they
have corrected it. Welcome back WCBS-FM radio's classic songs to New York!"
It wasn't long before we heard "Songs of The Stonewall". Ironically, it
started with the first song: "Do It Again" by The Beach Boys. The first
musical guest Frankie Valli -- a big Stonewall favorite -- was up next.
In Sopranos-style, he said that with the "oldies" back on WCBS, it's
safe for him to return to New Jersey! They played his #1 "Oh, What A Night".
Soon there were many SW-Songs -- and celebration message appropriate -- such
as "Remember, Walking In The Sand", "I Want U Back", "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing",
"More Today Than Yesterday", "Respect", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "I'll Say A
Little Prayer", "Summer In The City", "Dancing In The Street", "Strangers In The
Night", "My Boyfriend's Back", "Hot Fun In The Summertime", "A Brand New Me", "Come
Together", "Don't Mess With Bill", "Kiss Him Goodbye", "My Guy", "Standing In The Shadows
Of Love", "This Is My Song", "Happy Together", "Leader Of The Pack", "I Guess
I'll Always Love You", "People", "Satisfaction", "It's In His Kiss", "Kind Of A
Drag" and, of course, "Someday We'll Be Together", which was WCBS' theme song
while the classic pop songs were off the air. Look to hear about the "Songs of
The Stonewall" on WCBS-FM radio during the summer. Visit: www.WCBSFM.com.
Monday, July 9, 2007 -- S.V.A.

Wednesday, July 4 --
INDEPENDENCE DAY
This is Independence Day for the United States of America (USA). It is
also Independence Day for the Gay American community! It was 38 years ago that
the historic Stonewall Rebellion completed on the night of July 3rd (Thursday). We
Gays then celebrated our independence -- but not freedom -- as a more-than-ever united
community the very next day, ironically on July 4th!
Tuesday, July 3 -- END of STONEWALL REBELLION in
1969
After five inconsecutive nights from Friday, June 27, to Thursday, July 3, 1969, the
historic Stonewall Rebellion concluded with great success 38 years ago tonight. For
a complete turn-around back then, the wrong-headed police lost; the rightful and
brave Gays won!
Sunday, July 1, 2007 -- S.V.A. WEBSITE
SCORES its BUSIEST WEEK
With one of the most exciting, great weather -- except June 27th with
two brief but busting black-outs in NYC -- and truly popular Gay Pride Weeks in awhile,
the S.V.A. website had over 205,000 verified visits from Monday, June 25 to Sunday, July
1, 2007. The record-breaking week included the busiest day of S.V.A. website
visits, symbolically occuring on "Stonewall Day". Congratz to the everlasting
legend of the one and only S.V.A. and the octopusial innovative leadership of
the one and only Williamson!
End of June 2007 -- BUSIEST MONTH for S.V.A.
WEBSITE
Nearly 800,000 visits to the S.V.A. website
from all around the world were electronically tallied and HTML-verified just for the
month of June. It is posilutely no coincidence that this occured during Gay
Pride Month -- an annual tradition when the S.V.A. website always breaks its prior
year Gay Pride Month record of "visits".
Saturday, June 30 -- S.V.A. ANNUAL GAY
PRIDE MEETING and STONEWALLERS REUNION
This year is unusual insofar as the last Saturday of June (30th) is
after the annual GLBT parade (24th). It was interesting to learn how many of the
seasoned "Stonewall Queens" -- Cristina, Brooke, China, et al. -- actually went to
the GLBT Center on the previous Saturday (23rd) thinking that the S.V.A.
must have a meeting prior to the parade?
No! Meeting ignites @ 4:30 p.m.
Today's main S.V.A. agenda topics include but are not limited
to:
* remembering irreplaceable Stonewall veterans who have died
* public re-launching of 1969 "Stonewall Car" (unseen 2 years)
* presenting Gay Pride letters from public officials and groups
* reviewing all of the 2007 Gay Pride events involving the S.V.A.
* members voting on 'the best' -- and 'the worst' -- GLBT event
* looking at the colorful pix from the many festivities and parades
* indadequate SW-Vetz parade cars unprovided by HOP (total: 0)
* S.V.A. Treasurer's monthly financial report by Biggi Berti Cough
* discussing the recent S.V.A. June 27th party at The Stonewall Inn
* hell-os provided by Mother Nature (thunderballs and blackouts)
* listing all of the items promised but not provided (mainly food)
* changes for next S.V.A. party Gay History Month on Oct. 10
* suggestions for the S.V.A. fun-/fund-raiser on Wed. "10/10"
* election (mid-year) only of the S.V.A. President
* SVA-ers reunion party, desserts and drinx after the meeting
Saturday, June 30 -- S.V.A. GETS FIRST LETTER from TOM
DUANE
Believe it or not, it is the first Gay Pride
letter that the S.V.A. ever received from openly-Gay state legislator Tom Duane since he was first elected to office in 1991.
The S.V.A. believes that "it's usually better late than never".
That's gayly the case here. Some elusive politicians would be
well-served to follow Mr. Duane's 'late' lead. Here are some excerpts
from Tom's personalized and prideful letter:
"I am writing to congratulate
and honor those who were at The Stonewall on
this evening's celebration
of the 38th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion.
As a 14-year-old growing up in
Queens, I was just barely aware of 'riots'
taking place in Greenwich
Village from June 27 to July 3, 1969. Yet as they
did countless other
GLBT people from that time forth, the brave actions
of
those in and around The Stonewall Inn on those five nights had
a
profound
influence of my (gay) sexuality, my coming out in 1972
and on my activism in the GLBT rights
movement."
Friday, June 29 -- N.Y.S.
GOVERNOR SPITZER'S PROCLAMATION to the S.V.A.
The actual -- and largest we've ever seen -- "Proclamation" from New
York's newie Governor Eliot L. Spitzer to the
STONEWALL Veterans' Association was received 'special delivery' today via FedEx.
One "Whereas...." statement by the Governor is the following:
"As our Gay communities comprised of family
members, friends, co-workers and neighbors
seek the rights and understanding each of us deserves, we join to celebrate the pride
they express every day through their strength and unity".
Gov. ELS's support of the S.V.A. dates back over a dozen years ago to late 1994 after the
Democratic Primary -- which non-politician candidate Eliot lost in fourth
place to the S.V.A.'s openly-Gay Corporate Counsel Karen Burstein. When
Eliot ran as an attorney general candidate again in 1998, it was S.V.A.'s Williamson
who literally introduced the virtually unknown Mr. Spitzer to much of the Gay
community including but not limited to the Gay Community Center, various GLBT
organizations including PRIDE Democrats and the S.V.A., the Garden Party, the GLBT
Democratic Primary Candidates' Forum (hosted by Williamson), etc..
Thursday, June 28 -- U.S.
SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON has S.V.A. COMMEMORATION LETTER DELIVERED to the
S.V.A.
Selected excerpts of Senator
Hillary's powerful and proud letter are printed here. The original letterhead
with the gold dome will be posted on Senator Hillary's page on the S.V.A.
website.
"I am delighted to have this opportunity to send greetings to each
of you celebrating the 38th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion with the
STONEWALL Veterans' Association.
I am confident that the educational, community-building and outreach programs that the
S.V.A. provides will continue to provide hope and opportunity for many individuals.
Congratulations on 38 outstanding years and please accept my best wishes for
a wonderful STONEWALL Veterans' Association event."
Wednesday, June 27, 2007
-- 38th ANNIVERSARY of the 1969
STONEWALL REBELLION: The ULTIMATE GAY HERITAGE and POSILUTE GAY
PRIDE EVENT of the
SEASON
Event Prologue:
The STONEWALL Veterans' Association ("S.V.A.") commemorates the 38th year of
the historic 1969 Gay Stonewall Rebellion and the anniversary of the S.V.A.
The organization celebrates with an anniversary party and fun/d-raiser at --
where else -- the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street! "June 27th" is the
most important date in Gay history! Yet, how many know it? In a
recent interview with Williamson Henderson
by a documentary film company, he once again proudly declared: "June 27th to the
Gay community is the equivalent of July 4th to the American colonies!" To
share original Gay pride, be with
the original Gay pride people at
the original Gay pride place. You
will also be treated to the original Gay
pride music.
S.V.A. Event 411:
The time of the three-hour "Stonewall" happening is from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Attendees are welcomed to enter at any time after 6 p.m. (not
earlier) and prior to 9 p.m. (not later).
We
will have the Stonewall Club's newly-refurbished main floor and the upstairs
Cabaret Room with full-length bar and
stage!
Vintage "Songs of The
Stonewall" will be played by a disc jockey throughout the evening. Public
officials and organization heads will be paying their respects and singing the
Stonewall song "Respect". In turn, they will be presented
on stage and speak their Stonewall tribute. There will be
a catered buffet from several restaurants. Special Stonewall delicacy
desserts are home-made by Dora's Dee-lights. There will be an admissions and
sign-in table out front of the club. Meanwhile, look out for the S.V.A. promotional
mailings, faxes, e-mails throughout Gay Pride Month and an ad in the New York Blade News in its "Gay Pride" issue available in
newsboxes and at many businesses as of June
22nd.
Stonewall
Music:
Listen to hear the popular songs of the original Stonewall Club from
1966 to 1969 -- plus some perennial favorite songs from the Stonewall jukebox.
The first Stonewall song played must be "Remember (Walkin' In The Sand)"
by The Shangri-Las
featuring Mary
Weiss.
For Stonewall Vetz, the opening words are particularly haunting:
"Seems like the other day, my baby went away....", relating to The Stonewall
itself and all those memorable good Gay times. The emotionally stirring
"Remember" song was a homegrown New York City #1 hit, a perennial favorite
in the Stonewall jukebox and featured in the Cherry Grove scene
of the 1996 movie
"Stonewall".
Stonewall
Singers:
The artists you will enjoy hearing include, but are not limited to, the following:
Judy Garland, Frankie Valli, Diana Ross & The Supremes, (Sir) Sly & The Family

closing song of "Where The Boys Are". In the entire world, you will only find such
musical fabulousness and great diversity at an S.V.A. Stonewall Vetz party at The
Stonewall Inn!
Special Stonewall Guest:
Yes, a singing artist -- a group or an individual -- who was at the
original Stonewall Club in the popular jukebox will now be at The Stonewall in
person for the S.V.A.'s 2007 "Shindig"! This will be a first! The
singing artist has gladly made this guest commitment because of the significance and
the excitement of the Hullabaloo event. The surprise artist is listed among
those Stonewall singers above! Hey, if you don't get to this Stonewall
Bandstand to meet and greet this special Stonewall celebrity, you
can read about it in the local newspapers -- and get the artist's
latest compact disc at a record store.
Mystery Guest Guesses:
The top Stonewall singing artist guest guesses -- each with multiple votes via voice mail and
e-mail -- are the following five artists:
1. Mary Wilson of The Supremes
2. Maxine Brown
3. Martha Reeves of The Vandellas
4. Marvelettes
5. Mary Weiss of The Shangri-Las
One of the "M"s is actually the correct answer!
Musical
Guest Answer: The "Leader of the Pack"... Mary Weiss! Visit her website -- including classic
Shangri-Las song videos -- at www.MaryWeiss.com for something more about Mary!
Public Figure Confirmations:
Although this carved-in-stone(wall) S.V.A. event had not been officially
announced nor advertised yet, many Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender
("GLBT") organization heads have already signed on. Several public
officials have also confirmed their attendance. U.S. Congressmember Carolyn Maloney has thoughtfully purchased a block
of a dozen tickets. In addition, for example, Manhattan Borough President
Scott Stringer will be presenting a
"Stonewall Proclamation" to the S.V.A. at The Stonewall! Besides
the carved-in-Stonewall politicians, there is a super surprise public
official!
Prominent Acknowledgments:
Among the public officials who responsibly and thoughtfully sent a letter of praise and
good will to the S.V.A. for its June 27th anniversary event are the following: U.S.
Senator Hillary Clinton (a note and a journal
letter), N.Y.S. Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (a
letter and a proclamation), U.S. Congressmember Carolyn Maloney (an
e-mail and a letter),
N.Y.S. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo,
former
N.Y.C. Mayor Ed

NYCPD Special
Guests:
A few years ago,
the NYCPD cops of the Stonewall Rebellion arranged a much-publicized and
interesting reunion with the Stonewall Rebellion veterans -- replete with the 1969
"Stonewall Car". The event was covered on CBS-TV's national news segment "Eye On
America" and in The New York Times, among other media sources. Now, it's
our turn! The S.V.A. informed their key man, Sgt. Frank Tuscano, of the Old
Sixth Precinct group, to invite a few of the retired boys in blue to partake in our
Stonewall event. It's at the same place as the rebellion! Also invited are
many current NYCPD police officers who are openly-Gay! Wow, the times
have really changed.
RSVP
Request:
The S.V.A. requests that all public figure confirmations to attend the June
27th celebration also submit their intention in writing in order for
the person to be listed in S.V.A. ads, announcements and the souvenier
program.
Stonewall Vetz:
Veterans of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion in, at and near The Stonewall Club
confirmed to attend (list in very early
formation) include: Emile Griffith,
Jr., world boxing champion and subject of the film "Ring of Fire"
(2006); Storme DeLarverie; legendary transgender
star of the famed Jewel Box Revue; Bert
Coffman, founder and chairman of the mental health GLBT Zappalorti Society;
Bill Miranda
Salzman, first principal of the Harvey Milk Gay High School in
NYC; Amir Qaharr, well-known
regional Black Beauty sales manager initially stationed at The Stonewall,
Cristina Hayworth, who founded Herencia de
Orgullo and the first Gay Pride Parade in Puerto Rico; Matthew Samuelson, one of the youngest at The Stonewall at 15
and who took a bus there from city projects; Robert
Fucito, who is also known especially in Fire Island for creating his tranny sister
"China"; "Brooklyn" Bob Diamond, founder of the
Brooklyn Historic Railway Association (for the reactivation of trolley
cars).......
Dance
Contest:
The June 27th Committee has come up with the fun idea of a 1969 dance contest!
After all, one of the main social functions of The Stonewall was dancing. The
contest song will be a selected "Song of The Stonewall" that is not included in the "Top 69 Songs" announced in the program.
By the way, same-gender couples are now 'legal'! There will be a very special
prize for the winning couple!!
Advertising:
Through the S.V.A., there are distributions at GLBT events, mailings, e-mails and faxes.
Commercially, there will be an ad for the June 27th party in the Friday, June 22nd
"Gay Pride Weekend" issue of The
New York Blade. There will be an e-mail blast by
H/X Magazine. The event is listed on-line
at the popular (over seven million annual visits) STONEWALL Newzletta.
Admission:
The solid wood, castle-like door will be bolted from the inside until opening time @ 6
p.m. The entry amount for everyone for the S.V.A. fun- and
fund-raiser is $25 (minimum). Checks and money orders payable to "S.V.A." are
acceptable. The S.V.A. encourages attendees -- and
non-attending supporters -- to add a voluntary contribution since this event is also
a worthwhile fund-raiser for the non-profit STONEWALL Veterans' Association
("S.V.A.").
Location:
The Stonewall Inn is located at the same place it was
located in the late
1960s Era: 53 (a.k.a. "69") Christopher Street just south of
Seventh Avenue. The
club is opposite Sheridan Square Triangle. Look for the red
neon window sign
that reads "The Stonewall Inn". Driving down Seventh Avenue
by taxi, you should be dropped off at Christopher
Street in front of The
Duplex. Subway is the #1 local at the Christopher
Street
station. The #2 and #3 express trains stop at West 14th
Street to transfer to
the local #1. If you have foods or flowers to be
delivered
to The Stonewall on the 27th, the phone number of the club is (212)
488-2705.

Wednesday, June 27 -- S.V.A. RECEIVES
ANNUAL GAY PRIDE LETTER from FORMER NYC MAYOR ED KOCH
It is so special to receive yet another wonderful letter of acknowledgment
and praise from our Stonewall lifetime Honorary Male Chairperson Mayor-for-Life
Edward I. Koch. The letter addressed to
S.V.A. Executive Director Williamson Henderson is historically dated with the ultimate
Gay history date: June 27th! One of the former Mayor's poignant statements is
as follows:
"This year's' recent New York Gay Pride Parade reminded millions of people of
the nation of the sacrifices made 38 years ago during the Stonewall Rebellion
when
members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community, mostly
boys and girls stood up for their rights against police bent on violating the
rights
of patrons, arresting some simply because of their presence....
All the best to the S.V.A. for your commemoration party today."
Tuesday, June 26 -- N.Y.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL ANDREW CUOMO's TRIBUTE to
the S.V.A. ARRIVES
The original, excellent, supportive, appreciative and
genuine letter from our longtime friend, now the Attorney General, Andrew
M. Cuomo (=AMC=) will be posted in its entirety on the =AMC= dedicated
page at the S.V.A. website. Here are a few of =AMC=s impressive statements to
the S.V.A.:
"I have greatly enjoyed working with
the STONEWALL Veterans'
Association over the years and have always been impressed with everything
the Association has been able to achieve.... There is no question that
a great debt of gratitude is owed to the members of the
STONEWALL Veterans' Association.
....You have my strong and unwavering support, and I have delighted in
seeing the STONEWALL Veterans' Association carry on the tradition of
leading the annual New York City Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender
Pride Parade with the 1969 "Stonewall Car".
Monday, June 25 -- COUNCILMEMBER ERIC GIOIA'S GAY PRIDE LETTER to
S.V.A.
N.Y.C. Councilmember Eric N. Gioia
not only composed a nice letter for the S.V.A.'s annual Gay Pride
commemoration, but he took an S.V.A. journal ad. Sample text from the letter
is as follows:
"Thirty-eight years ago, a brave group of young men and
women
stood up for their rights as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and
Transgender
(GLBT) Americans. Today, their work continues through the
work
and presence of the STONEWALL Veterans' Association (SVA). The
association's work with the GLBT and greater New York community
includes leading the Gay Pride parades, AIDS/HIV assistance and
educational programs to inform about the Stonewall Rebellion."
Monday, June 25 --
S.V.A. WEBSITE
BUSIEST WEEK
The S.V.A. website had its busiest week in ten
years (since the website started) and appropriately during Gay Pride Week from Monday,
June 18th and ending on Stonewall Sunday, June 24, 2007. There were over
185,000 verified "visits"! Yesterday, Stonewall Sunday, the
S.V.A. had its second busiest day in its website history with over 31,000
visits -- and on a Sunday! The statistics indicate that June 2007
is already verified as the S.V.A.'s busiest month! Let's hear an internet
"ya-hoo" and a Bareback Mountain "yee-haw"!!
Sunday, June 24
(afternoon) -- S.V.A.'s ANNUAL "STONEWALL
DUNCHEON"
Confirmed, rain or shine, the
annual "Stonewall Duncheon" sponsored by the S.V.A. President revs up @ 3 p.m. until
6 p.m. Martinis come in all colors of the Gay rainbow flag: red for
raspberry, orange for orange, yellow for lemon, green for green apple or
watermelon, blue for blueberry and purple for grape. Place your order!
First Gay Pride drink is on the Gay house! This S.V.A. drink and eat
event serves as the reunion supper of the Stonewall veterans. The
duncheon is again at the Hudson Corner Cafe on Baby Jane Hudson Street at
the corner of Blanche Hudson Street (a.k.a. West 12th Street). Look for the
quaint white "Peyton Place" picket fence. The S.V.A. reserves half of the
entire outdoor cafe. Serving the complimentery Gay Pride drinx is the Gay
owner Brother Anthony Brasco. Our
hostess is the unreligious Gay Sister Agnes Mary
DiSchiavi. Dishing out the entrees will be our fave waitress DeeDee Dinah on loan from the notorious Salt &
Pepper Diner in Balt'more. Look for the famous blue 1969 convertible "Stonewall
Car" parked out front on grand Gay display. Taking festive photos are
Hal Weiner (with his safari hat) and Dr. Dyane Karron (minus her bicycle helmet). You must
confirm your special seat at the rainbow tables via telephone with the S.V.A.'s
Assistant AnDre Christie at (212) 6-27-1969.
FYI: "Duncheon" is defined by expert
proofreader Williamson as Gay-ly occuring
timewise between lunch and dinner. For example... Shall we dunch at 3
p.m.?
Advisory: If both Will &
AnDre order martinis and/or mellonballs, to quote a Martha Reeves &
The Vandellas' Stonewall song: "Watchout!" (Seasoned Stonewallers
are aware-plus.)
Sunday, June 24 -- NEW YORK CITY 38th ANNUAL GAY, LESBIAN,
BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER & QUESTIONING (GLBTQ) PRIDE
P*A*R*A*D*E
The "Capital of the World" New York, New York ('so
nice they named it twice') is where the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion occurred.
"NY-2" is likewise the appropriate place where the first Gay Pride March
happened one year later in June 1970 to celebrate the first anniversary of
the Gay rebellion!
This year's special Stonewall Guest-of-Honor is legendary world champion boxer
Emile A. Griffith, Jr. Just two years ago,
Emile was the subject of the highly-acclaimed documentary "Ring of Fire". Besides
being a Stonewall veteran, Emile proudly serves as the Vice-President of the S.V.A.
Incredibly -- and there's a long and winding road here -- this is the champ's
first Gay Pride parade! This is so newsworthy that The New York Times did a story on this subject of Emile with the
S.V.A. in the Gay Pride Parade on the front page of their sports section on June
9th. S.V.A. President Williamson Henderson was quoted a few times. All of this and
much more makes it all the more proud!
The S.V.A. will have two classic convertibles -- though we could use
five or seven. The seating is planned for those who rightly want to ride on
this proudful day as some of the people who ignited it all. Those
Stonewall veterans who are disabled must ride! Confirmed in the S.V.A.
cars are as follows:
Car #1 (blue) - 1969 "Stonewall Car": Leigh
McManus (ridin' shotgun), Emile Griffith
(boxing champion), Hal Weiner (SVA
attorney and photographer), Tom
Viola (special honoree) and Scott
Barnes -- plus S.V.A. Assistant AnDre
Christie proudly driving the "Big Bad Blu"!
Car #2 (red) - "The Paddy Wagon": Betty
Bristol (in from Ohio), Mark Zatlow
(in from California), Rose Giordano (in from
The Twilight Zone), Luis Rodrigo (Long Island)
and Shari Lemonz (Brooklyn; event camera
girl) -- plus SVA-er Matthew
Samuelson navigating.
Most of the Stonewall veterans walk -- not ride -- with the S.V.A.
contingency. Walking with the S.V.A. leading the parade is
Williamson, Storme DeLarverie, Dianne
Yodice, China Fucito, Jack Rojas, Cristina
Hayworth (up from San Juan) and other Stonewallers. In addition, there are
many Friends-of-SVA such as Steven Gradman
and Petrie Hudec marching with the S.V.A.
This year, the colorful
S.V.A. banner is proudly carried by Nadine
Andres, (Mr.) Toni Beatch and Yvonne
Mercado.
The sole parade-traveling exception to all of the above is Dr. Dyane B. Karron on her bicycle as a companion piece to
the SW-Car!
Parade line-up location is on Fifth
Avenue from 52nd to 56th Streets and all of those cross streets in midtown Manhattan, New
York. The S.V.A.'s exact line-up position is at the parade start at Fifth Avenue
and 52nd Street. Kick-off time is exactly at 12 noon! The parade travels
south down Fifth Avenue and west on 8th Street to Saint Christopher Street.
It turns left at the beginning of Christopher, passes the legendary Stonewall
Inn and travels to nearly the end at Washington Street in Greenwich Village near the
Hudson River. For more 411, you can call the parade organizer Heritage of
Pride ("HOP") at (212) 80-PRIDE or visit their website at www.HOPinc.org.
Post-Event Notes: The STONEWALL Veterans' Association was
shown on all three major televison news networks: CBS, NBC and ABC -- plus the
local New York 1 News. They all particularly zoomed in on the big red, white and
blue S.V.A. banner.
Saturday, June 23 -- S.V.A. JUNE 27th COMMITTEE
MEETING
Today's meeting is mainly about the
advertising, printing and mailing of the newly-revised, two-sided, lavendar June 27th
announcement fliers. Confirmed to attend in person are Williamson Henderson, Stacey
Lentz and AnDre Christie. Others
will be providing updates and suggestions via e-mail and phone. They will be
driving the fliers to The Stonewall and other key Christopher Street locations.
Andre will also be washing the "Stonewall Car" on Horatio Street -- with the
assistance of S.V.A. Prez Williamson.

"Honey Chile". All seven of the stated songs will surely be performed
tonight! This is special that Martha is in Manhattan during Gay Pride Week.

Inez Dickens, Lou Fidler and David
Weprin. What happened to the other

City then and now, Gay rights, her work for Governor Mario Cuomo's administration at the
N.Y.S. Human Rights Division, mention of the S.V.A. organization, Liz's partner of
sixteen-plus years Erica, arranging an upcoming
conference on feminism, Liz's consulting firm and, of course, the connection of all of
this to Liz's famous mother Congressmember Bella
Abzug. The interview and photos air @ 11 p.m. on New York 1 News on channel
1 in NYC.

restaurants. The S.V.A. plans to once again have a display table with three
Stonewall veteran representatives. This year's big, exciting, outdoor "Garden
Party" happens at the Hudson River's Pier 54 at West 14th Street. It is just west

FROM PERSECUTION TO PRIDE
"Stonewall: From Persecution To Pride" is an evening of
reflection and entertainment celebrating the forthcoming anniversary of the 1969
Stonewall Rebellion for Gay rights. This celebration is sponsored by St. John's
Evangelical Lutheran Church. The tribute takes participants on a historical
journey from the executions of Gays in the Middle Ages and the German Third
Reich persecutions of the late 1930s and early 1940s to the beginnings of Gay
activism in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Stonewall uprising of 1969 and the
launching of Gay pride in the 1970s. The presentation consists of speech, music,
art and dance. St. John's pastor Father Lyndon
Harris is the charming and inspiring host.
The
commemorative Stonewall speaker about the 1969 Stonewall Era, club and rebellion is
Williamson Henderson. Many Stonewall Vetz
will be sitting in the 'reserved' front pew. Music is performed by The Stonewall Chorale, songwriter/singer Julie Gold ("From A Distance") and the Musica Bella Orchestra. The celebration
occurs in the
church on Saint Christopher Street at number 81 off Seventh Avenue -- only a long stone's
throw from The Stonewall! The Sheridan Square subway station is nearby with the
local #1 train (switch at West 14 Street from #2 and #3 trains). Church bells
start ringing at 6 p.m. to commence the program. A food reception follows

Bert Coffman, Ruthy
Campbell and Matthew Samuelson -- presented on stage, give a brief
history on the Stonewall Rebellion, have the audience partake in the well-known
"S-T-O-N-E-W-A-L-L" cheer and inspire the audience with our proud heritage. The
S.V.A. stage entrance will have the background music of #1 Stonewall song "Someday We'll
Be Together" by dreamgirls Diana Ross & The Supremes. The HOP Rally takes
place in scenic and convenient Bryant Park between Fifth Avenue and Avenue of the
Americas at West 42nd Street in midtown Manhattan. The outdoor Gay Pride Rally

events claim to kick off Gay Pride Week, this is the one that actually kicks! For

This is an open and free public event. It begins @ 5:30 p.m.
No direx needed; it's at "The Center". (The S.V.A. will not be there;
we'll be at Gracie!)
Sunday, June 10 -- LONG ISLAND'S 17th ANNUAL GAY PRIDE
PARADE
This is
Long Island 's 17th annual Gay Pride Parade and Festival in the Park. It seems like
only a few years ago that the S.V.A. led their parade and spoke on stage at the
rally. This suburban Gay parade starts sensibly @ 1 p.m. The staging area in
Huntington, L.I., is in the perfect place of a public parking lot. It is located
behind the Main Street stores from Clinton Avenue to Gerard Street in downtown
Huntington. For more 411, visit LIPP at www.LIPrideParade.com, e-mail LIPP at info@LIPrideParade.com or telephone LIPP at (631)
225-2726.
Decision:
Due to no communication from L.I.P. -- other than a standard mailed form
-- the S.V.A. members voted unanimously to ince again not partake in this "from a
distance" parade.
Saturday, June 9 ("6/9") -- BROOKLYN's
11th ANNUAL G.L.B.T. PRIDE PARADE
The Borough of Brooklyn's great 'night parade' -- the
only nighttime pride in New York City -- celebrates the presence and the pride of
Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgender ("GLBT") people of Brooklyn and far beyond.
The S.V.A.'s founder is most proud as he
was born in Brooklyn. For this showcase happening, Brooklyn's GLBT community and a
cross-section of Brooklyn's business, governmental, organizational and neighborhood
representives and friends will attend this milestone and fun event. The
STONEWALL Veterans' Association leads the nighttime parade with the famous 1969 blue
Cadillac convertible a.k.a. the "Stonewall Car".
Confirmed to attend from the S.V.A. are
Williamson Henderson, Bert Coffman, Storme
DeLarverie (with a sprained ankle), Bob
Diamond, Bill Salzman and
Hugh Bruce (also a Viet Nam War veteran).
As a matter of fact, the last three live in Brooklyn! Driving
the convertible carrying Stonewall vets is Matthew Samuelson.
The parade's
Grand Marshal is someone
undeserving. Other confirmed public
officials are U.S. Senator Charles
Schumer, Congressmembers Anthony
Weiner and Yvette Clarke, N.Y.C.
Comptroller Bill Thompson, N.Y.S. Assemblymember
Matt Titone and N.Y.C. Councilmembers
Bill de Blasio and David Yassky. Parade
congregating is @ 8 p.m. The line-up location starts at 15th
Street in front of the movie theater along Prospect Park West ("PPW") in Brooklyn.
Parade gayly commences @ 9 p.m. The
parade route is from PPW at 15th Street to
7th Avenue where the parade heads east (turns right) along spectator-lined Seventh
Avenue, past the reviewing stand, until the end of Seventh Avenue near the avenue
Flatbush! To confirm your marching with the S.V.A., call AnDre Christie at (212) 6-27-1969. The S.V.A. has
its pre-parade reserved dinner at Circle Restaurant at the trolley-turning traffic
circle. BP also publishes an "Official Pride Guide" for information and
advertising. See the full-page ad of the S.V.A. For more 411 on any of
the Brooklyn GLBT Pride festivities, call (718) 928-3320 or visit www.BrooklynPride.com.
Newz: This is one of the
three GLBT Pride parades that the STONEWALL Veterans' Association has confirmed
and arranged to attend and to parade!
Saturday, June 9 -- NEW YORK TIMES: EX-BOXING CHAMPION IS READY TO
JOIN GAY PRIDE PARADE
The S.V.A. assumed that this
in-depth story about secretly-Gay boxing champ Emile Griffith wouldn't be released until Gay Pride
weekend. However, The
New York Times apparently couldn't wait as the feature
item came out on the front page of the "Sports Saturday" section today!
Ironically, it's the day that Emile is upstate New York riding in the "Parade
of Champions" at the International Boxing Hall-of-Fame and the S.V.A. is leading the Gay
Pride Parade in Brooklyn near Prospect Park West. Emile declared: "My fights
came first. But when I had my free time, sometimes I'd make up my mind to go
to Gay clubs". Inside, he enjoyed himself! The Stonewall in Greenwich Village
was special. "Couldn't get me out of that place", Emile revealed, "I really enjoyed
myself there". Writer Aimee Berg
also effectively quoted Williamson Henderson
several interesting times. The author wrote: When Griffith patronized Gay
establishments during his athletic prime, "he was really ahead of his time", said
Williamson Henderson. founding President of the STONWALL Veterans' Association, a group
made up of the participants in the 1969 uprising in Greenwich Village that started the
modern Gay rights movement. "Now when an athlete comes out (Gay)", Henderson
said, "they're regarded as being a hero to the (Gay) community". Simply by
frequenting the (Gay) clubs, Henderson said, "Emile Griffith did that a long time ago.
When are they going to declare him a hero?"
Thursday, June 7 -- BROOKLYN
BORO PRESIDENT'S EVENT in HONOR of GAY, BI & T/G MONTH

Markowitz (a.k.a. SchMarty) is the ringmaster of this annual GLBT Pride
celebration in Brooklyn. The GLBT organizational honoree is the Rainbow Heights

newly-elected, openly-Gay Assemblymember Matt
Titone from Staten Island. Location is the historic and scenic

SINGER
Legendary R &B singer Maxine Brown had two
perennial favorite songs in the jukebox at The Stonewall: "Oh, No, Not My Baby"
(written by Carole King) and "One Step At A Time, Boy". Miss Brown is better known
for her pre-Stonewall hits such as "Funny" and "All In My Mind". One of Maxi's
best longtime friends is Stonewaller David
Foxworth. Soul princess Miss Brown had the 1969 hit
R&B song, "We'll Cry Together", which was popular at The Stonewall.
The doors open @ 6 p.m. Performance begins @ 7 p.m. Join other
Stonewallers to see Maxine at the Fashion Forty Lounge located at 202 West 40th Street
(between Seventh and Eighth Avenues) in midtown Manhattan. The cover charge
is $20 with food and drinks available. For more 411, call (212) 221-3628.
Sunday, June 3 (day) -- QUEENS (COUNTY)'s
15th ANNUAL GAY PRYDE PARADE
This is incredibly the 15th annual Gay Pryde (their
original unique spelling) Parade in Queens! The S.V.A., under the leadership
and parade coordination of Williamson Henderson,
led the first dozen (not the past three) Queens Gay Pryde parades with the 1969
blue "Stonewall Car". The restored Queens parade chairperson is Danny Dromm. Parade line-up location is on 37th
Avenue at 90th Street in Jackson Heights, New York. The route of the parade travels
along spectator-lined 37th Avenue to 75th Street. All the parade
particpants turn left for one long block to the 37th Road stage and
festival. The parade steps off @ 12 noon. For more 411, visit www.QueensPride.com or telephone (718)
592-8650.
Decision: Although the S.V.A. led the
first dozen Gay Pryde parades in Queens, the S.V.A.
membership has decided not to participate in this
year's parade without any direct contact. The Stonewall
veterans were merely mailed a form and an e-mail note. We expect Gay
Pride committees to also be communicative with and supportive of the S.V.A. -- not just a one-way street
This allows them another year to attend an S.V.A. meeting or function for discussions and arrangements.
Saturday, June 2 -- STATEN ISLAND's 3rd ANNUAL GAY PRIDE
PARADE
Staten Island's Gay, Lesbiaan, Bi and Transgender
("GLBT") Pride Parade commences at Ocean Breeze Pier and parades along the
scenic Staten Island Boardwalk. This outer borough parade starts @ 12 noon.
The GLBT Pride Festival is at the Midland Beach Picnic Area until 6 p.m.
All functions are accessible from Father Capodanna Boulevard which is parallel to
the seashore.
For more 411, you can visit the Staten Island Health
Action ("SIHA") website, which includes a "GLBT" section, at www.SIHealthAction.org.
You may call the SIHA, sponsor of the parade and festival, at (718) 808-1351.
Tell them that the original Stonewall sent U!
Friday, June 1, 2007 -- GAY RE-OPENING: THE STONEWALL
INN
To quote a song of the 1969
Stonewall Club, "Oh, Happy Day"! This will be the official Gay Pride
Month re-opening of the legendary Stonewall Inn club. To quote another song of The
Stonewall, "The Happening" occurs at the original, renowned and refurbished
Stonewall Inn at 69 Christopher Street north of Seventh Avenue South in Greenwich
Village. The special Stonewall event will be hosted by Princess Kellie Anne the Man. On display out front will
be the famous blue 1969 Cadillac convertible "Stonewall Car" guarded by AnDre C. The party will ignite @ 6 p.m. and last into
the Gay hours.....
June 2007 -- GAY PRIDE MONTH
-- 38th YEAR!
End of May 2007 -- S.V.A. WEBSITE
HITS HIGHEST AMOUNT of VISITS
The busier-than-ever worldwide website of the STONEWALL Veterans' Association hit over
738,000 verified (through HTML Systems) "visits" this pre-pride month of May. The
S.V.A. expends being an educational source of unique information on many GLBT topics and
much more around-the-clock.
Thursday, May 31 -- LIZ ABZUG'S "PRE-PRIDE
PRIVATE POW-WOW"
S.V.A. Honorary Member Liz Abzug's
"Pre-Pride Private Pow-Wow" is scheduled @ 8 p.m. -- after the S.V.A. committee
meeting. The discussion dinner is at a pre-arranged TriBeCa restaurant.
Confirmed to attend, besides Liz, are Williamson, AnDre,
Erica, Vito and
Mini. How many greentinis is that so
far?
Wednesday, May 30 -- N.Y.C.
COMPTROLLER'S GLBTQ PROMOTIONAL EVENT
The S.V.A. received a boilerplate flier about "pride". Not in the "Spirit of Stonewall", let's see who can have
"pride" first! And to hold it on traditional "Memorial Day"? This
comptroller's get2gether is again at the GLBT Center in Manhattan. The
month of non-Gay May occasion starts @ 5:30 p.m. and ends @ 7 p.m.
Some are wondering who's unsmart and insensitive gesture it was to
have a New York (where it all ignited) Gay Pride
Month event in May? Hunh? The S.V.A. pooh-poohs this one-upmanship
game and dislikes the frivolous Christmas-in-July tactic. The S.V.A.'s
Biggi Berti Coffman will head up any
SVA-ers who may stop bi. Meet Berti at the biggie smorgasbord!
Tuesday, May 29 -- S.V.A. "JUNE 27th"
COMMITTEE MEETING
This committee meeting is exclusively relating to the S.V.A. anniversary
party on June 27th at The Stonewall. It is for "6/27" committee members
only. This meeting is being held at the actual Stonewall Inn.
This planning, promotion and advertising session for June 27th is chaired
by Stacy Lentz. Confirmed to attend are
Williamson, Bert, Luis and
Gina. Time of the get2gether is @ 6:30
p.m. Greentinis are @ 7:30 p.m.
After the S.V.A. committee meeting at The Stonewall, some S.V.A. members will stop
by the Heritage of Pride general meeting at The Center. It will be an
opportunity in person to arrange and confirm certain pride and parade plans involving the
S.V.A.
Saturday, May 26 --
S.V.A. MONTHLY MEETING at the
GLBT CENTER
Williamson Henderson,
the S.V.A. President, presides with a printed agenda distributed to all attendees in
good standing. The meeting actually begins @ 4:15 p.m. sharp. S.V.A.
Veep Emile Griffith and his
partner Luis Rodrigo detail fund-raising efforts. Treasurer
Bert Coffman will read the S.V.A. financial
report for the month. Betty Bristol submits
for approval the 'minutes' of last month's meeting. Ambassador Storme Dee lays out suggestions and questions for the
S.V.A. 6/27 party. Hal Weiner will
provide legal advice if needed. Gina
Wright speaks on updates with Youth-for-SVA. The June 27th Committee Members provide more 411 and discuss
further planning about next month's celebration and benefit party. One Q&A
is that the event is open to the entire GLBT communities and their friends and
supporters.
All five of the New York City borough GLBT pride committees have been invited to this
S.V.A. executive committee-style meeting -- particularly if they want the Stonewall
veterans to highlight their parades, etc. Brooklyn Pride had the S.V.A. at
their recent planning meeting. Staten Island has phoned. Queens Pryde
sent an e-mail. Heritage of Pride (Manhattan) has confirmed an actual
representative, Jason Bain who is HOP's
"Outreach" chairperson, at this meeting.
This month's guest speaker is openly-Gay N.Y.C. Councilmember Rosie Mendez who represents the Second Councilmatic District
in Manhattan (East Village, Lower East Side, Gramercy Park). Three of the agenda
items will be the GLBT pride celebration at City Hall next month, a proclamation from the
City to S.V.A. and the Councilmember's spear-heading the Council for S.V.A.'s June 27th
event.
After this annual Memorial Day weekend S.V.A. meeting, the SVA-ers and friends
always go out to a memorable outdoor dinner!
Wednesday, May 23 -- HERITAGE OF
PRIDE COMMUNITY MEETING
Heritage of Pride ("HOP") has cancelled Pridefest this year because they
decided that they no longer want the location on Washington Street in the
gayly historic West Greenwich Village -- where it all
ignited! We vividly recall how terrific it was to get any "pridefest".
The S.V.A. -- though never consulted -- understands their venue thinking
and agree with the change of the day to pre-parade day Saturday instead
of "Stonewall Sunday". However, HOP only wants to have Pridefest
on Gay Boulevard (Eighth Avenue) running through the expensive business heart
of Gay Chelsea. Problem is that HOP was (wrongly, in our opinion) refused by the
City the permit for the latter, much-expanded and new venue. S.V.A.
representatives will be present mainly since HOP has decided that it
will not sponsor Pridefest at the old location, the S.V.A. would do so for the GLBT
communities to have some festival and to benefit the Stonewall veterans
organization. The S.V.A. already has an exisiting annual streetfair permit so the
S.V.A. is not 'new' to get a permit. Nor is the location 'new'. The
space could also be shared if HOP wants to have a mentioned "protest" arena. The
meeting at the GLBT Center is @ 8 p.m.
Monday, May 21 -- S.V.A. CONFERENCE at CONGRESSMEMBER MALONEY'S
OFFICE
As the Honorary Female Chairperson of the S.V.A., the organization has a
semi-annual meeting at Congressmember Carolyn
Maloney's office. On this season's announced agenda are Gay
Pride events including the Congressmember, the S.V.A.'s June 27th anniversary party,
the Congressmember's renewed sponsorship of the S.V.A., her revised S.V.A. website
journal ad and her new tribute letter to the Stonewall Vetz. On a social
note, Carolyn has offered a member of her staff to be on the S.V.A.'s volunteer June
27th committee. District Manager Juanita
Reyes was quick to confirm! The special meeting today is at the
Congressmember's District Office on Third Avenue and East 93rd Street on the Upper East
Side @ 2:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 20 -- 17th ANNUAL AIDS WALK in NEW YORK CITY
The greatest loss -- by far, wide and deep -- of 1969 Stonewall Rebellion
veterans has been due to the AIDS War! It has not only wiped out their meaningful
individual lives but it has wiped out a significant part of our Gay history. The
AIDS Walk gathers and happens in Central Park. Participants should us the Fifth
Avenue and 59th Street entrance. The actual walk is two to three hours -- that
depends on U! Walkers step off @ 11 a.m. For much more 411 about the most
important (for many reasons) AIDS Walk fund-raiser, visit: www.AIDSwalk.net.
Sunday, May 13 -- MOTHER's DAY
Interestingly, of all the S.V.A. officers, as of this writing, the
only two whose mothers who are living are Williamson Henderson's mother Helen and Betty
Bristol's mother Beatrice. There is
no question that both have the 411 to have a very interesting book written
about their offspring. To our knowledge, there are only a few other mothers of
Stonewall veterans alive such as Juanita
Watts, mother of John, and Meryl Mermin, mother of Ruth
Campbell. (If there are any others, please let us know.) For all of
the S.V.A.'s friends, supporters and advertisers who are "Mothers", we wish you a
happy, healthy, healthy and gay day!
Monday, May 7 -- BROOKLYN
GLBT PRIDE COMMITTEE MEETING
An organizational meeting for all of the upcoming GLBT events for
Brooklyn Pride. The meeting is held at the quaint Park Slope United Methodist
Church located at 493 8th Street at the corner of 6th Avenue in the Park Slope section of
Brooklyn. Zully, Doreen and Fran tri-chair the planning session.
Brooklyn-born Williamson
Henderson is representing the S.V.A. He will confirm all pride guide,
promotional and parade arrangements relating to the S.V.A., the members and the
car. The meeting begins @ 7 p.m. Nearby subway lines are the
"F" (7th Av. station) and the "R" (4th Av. station). For more 411 and direx,
call Brooklyn Pride at (718) 928-3320.
Sunday, May 6 -- S.V.A. WEBSITE ALSO
BREAKS WEEKLY RECORD
There were over 171,000 visits just in this one week of Monday, April
30, to Sunday, May 6, 2007! The S.V.A. website continues to expand and
get new readers. This is especially nice readings on the eve of Gay Pride
Month.
Thursday, May 3 -- BIRTHDAY for
#1 MALE SINGING STAR at THE STONEWALL: FRANKIE VALLI
Frankie Valli's biggest
birthday so far is his "Seven-Oh" today! You'd never know it with his busy
national concert schedule. Until last season, Mr. Valli was even on "The Sopranos"
(til he got whacked in Queens). Back in 1967, and since, so many couples
developed by singing to or dancing with
each other to Frankie Valli's super #1 hit "Can't Take My Eyes Off You (You're Much
Too Good To Be True)". This was surely no exception at the romantic Stonewall!
By the way, at the Brooklyn Concert Series by the sea again this July,
you can see a live performance of Frankie V and his Jersey Boyz!
End of Month: May 2007 -- RECORD-BREAKER WEBSITE with BUSIEST
MONTH
Congratz, again, to the S.V.A.! The website of the STONEWALL Veterans' Association
moved on up again passing the milestone of over 680,000 verified "visits" in one
month. Verification is by HTML Systems, Inc. The record-breaking
visits loudly demonstrate how interest in Gay history and Gay rights and
the Stonewall veterans today and S.V.A. happenings is year-round no
longer just Gay Pride Month!
End of Week: April 29 -- S.V.A.
WEBSITE BREAKS ITS WEEKLY RECORD AGAIN
The week of Monday, April 23, to Sunday, April 29, had a whopping 169,000+ verified
"visits" in one busy week -- and it isn't even Gay Pride!

forum on presidential candidates, campaign politics and the 2008 election.

-- and needed! Representing the S.V.A. are Williamson Henderson and Bert Coffman. For more 411, call (212) 987-5516.
The S.V.A. suggests that you r.s.v.p.
Saturday, April 28 --

new and updated information, Bert Coffman reports
on the S.V.A. finances and Storme reviews ideas
received for the S.V.A.'s June 27th party and fund-raiser. Other Stonewall

Lonesome, Leigh McManus and Rose Giordano. The E/C meeting starts promptly @ 4:15

(and all associated with it in the on-going aftermath of rebuilding, health
concerns, victims rights and memorials), Battery Park City, Chinatown, Little Italy,
City Hall area, TriBeCa, SoHo, NoHo, etc. We'll be discussing Gay-related
issues such as HIV/AIDS, Dignity for All Students (DASA), the forthcoming DASA II and the
S.V.A. concerns focusing on Gay Pride Month vis-a-vis the City Council celebration
and the N.Y.C. parade.
An after-meeting supper is scheduled at The Village Den restaurant on Greenwich

special benefit is tomorrow.
Sunday, April 22 -- S.V.A.
WEBSITE BREAKS WEEKLY TRAFFIC RECORD
This week of April 16th through the 22nd was the busiest week at the
S.V.A. website. There was a total of over 166,000 verified "visits" to the S.V.A.
in just one week! This is prima facie
evidence of one of the main purposes of the S.V.A. fulfilled that the
organization does 24/7/365: educate the public!
Saturday, April 21 -- EMILE GRIFFITH
at THE STONEWALL
This is sho 'nuff deja vu all over again. Emile Griffith first entered The Stonewall over
fourty years ago when it opened in January of 1966. Although a new
(since '66) bartender surprisingly never heard of Emile the Champ, he proudly knew
about the S.V.A.! Luis Rodrigo
protectively accompanied his longtime partner. The Stonewall owners were delighted
to have the S.V.A. Vice-President back home. E & L had a great time!
Thursday, April 19 -- RAINBOW

rest of your life!" It is also the second

Saturday, April 7 -- DAVE
WEST'S ONE-YEAR MEMORIAL ANNIVERSARY
Dave F. West is greatly missed by the Stonewall
Vetz, his fellow S.V.A. officers, his good personal friends, his GLBT
colleagues and his admiring galz in the I.Q.K.N.Y. Dave was popularly
involved in the events and shows of both organizations and beyond for many decades.
The S.V.A. is in regular contact with David's GLBT supportive mother
Mitzi LaManna of Syracuse, N.Y. Several
SVA-ers will be speaking with her today. A tribute dinner will be arranged
in Dave's honor on his mom Mitzi's next visit to Manhattan sometime in May.
You can visit Dave's interesting webfile at: www.STONEWALLvets.org/DaveWest.htm.
Friday, April 6, 2007 -- STONEWALL SUPREME STAR DIANA ROSS at NEW YORK THEATER in
MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
Supreme! Diana Ross just
re-opened in the Stonewall jukebox last month at the original Stonewall Inn's re-opening
and now "ain't nothing like the real thing" in
person!
We wonder which
Supremes' "Songs of The Stonewall" will diva Diana perform? Imagine seeing
original Stonewall songs performed fourty years later and by the original artist?
You would have had to been at The Stonewall to get the full impact of that thrill!
The
showtime in New York is @ 8 p.m. The theater management has requested that all
Ross concert goers arrive about an hour before showtime for this special Supreme event
and due to security reasons of checking all packages and bags. Anyone wishing to
order tickets by phone may do so at: (212) 307-7171. "Endless Love".
Post-Event Update: Diva Diana opened with the #1
international Gay anthem "I'm Coming Out". Miss Ross then youthfully bounced
into her new single record and a Stonewall favorite song (by The Spiral
Starecase in 1969) "More Today Than Yesterday (But Not As Much As Tomorrow)".
The actual DRS "Songs of The Stonewall" that Diana girlishly recreated in
Supreme voice were "My World Is Empty Without You" (1966), "Reflections" (1967) and "Love
Child (Different From The Rest)" (1968). Of course, Divalicious performed other DRS
songs, five!

Ironically, Miss Newman and S.V.A.'s Mister Henderson (he was very young) worked on a movie
together. The Columbia Pictures obscure film with a controversial subject
matter from 1971 is entitled "To Find A Man". The last time
Phyllis and Williamson saw each other, the war was Viet Nam -- not AIDS! This will
be their reunion (at the after-show party)! To think that even that is
happening.... thanks to BC/EFA!
Saturday, March 17 -- ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE
-- MARCH IN IT!
No one is going to deprive us -- the Veterans of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion (no,
it was not a 'riot') and our friends and supporters -- of being in any parade!
No how! No way! Life is way too short for that, particularly
a parade -- they only come once a year. Further, to clarify, the Ancient
Order of Hibernians (bigoted, foolish and shameful as they are) do not prevent Gay
people (how could they) from marching in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. However, the
old AOH bans Gay groups with banners or signs indicating that they are a
Gay group. Hey, guess what? With that situation we don't want them in
our Gay Pride parade as a group either. Gay people ought to wake up to
that reality. BTW, the "alternative" GLBT pre-holiday march is
so 'inclusive' that they never invited the S.V.A.! How 'inclusive' is that?
Not! That makes them Gay hypocrites. We'll stick with the big one;
the one that we Americans grew up with for St. Patty's Day. Hurry! To quote a
Stonewall song, "Before The Parade Passes By" (by Barbra). The S.V.A.'s Honorary
Female Chairperson Congressmember Carolyn Maloney
will head up our delegation. The parade starts on Fifth Avenue at 42nd Street in
the heart of Manhattan @ 11 a.m. For more 411, visit: www.SaintPatricksDayParade.com.
Wednesday, March 14 -- DIANA ROSS
CONTINUES on #1 "AMERICAN IDOL"
Supreme Diana Ross will be on "live" tonight for part two of her
"American Idol" experience. All of the contestants will do an ensemble
tribute to Diana of Supremes songs including "Stop!" Miss Ross is
performing the show's special celebrity guest song. Hopefully, it
will be Diana's new, very Stonewallish single, "(I Love You) More Today
Than Yesterday". The "A/I" show (also eliminating one loser) kicks up @ 9
p.m.
Post-Event Note: Miss Ross performed exactly what
WLH predicted: "ILYMTTY"!
Tuesday, March 13 -- #1
STONEWALL STAR DIANA ROSS on #1 T.V. SHOW "AMERICAN IDOL"
Tonight on "American ~Music~ Idol" is Superstar Diana Ross night -- plus twelve non-supreme contestants!
Special pre-filmed segments of Diana meeting separately with each
contestant and giving each musical advice on performing her songs is shown.
The musical tease and challenge, however, is that each of the 12 contestants
will be performing a Diana Ross or a Supremes song. One of the dumbazz boys
(Chris Richard-son, not phat Chris) in a television I/V dumbly stated: "You can't make a Supremes' song 'manish'. And it's hard for
a male to pick a Diana Ross song because I'm not singing "My Man" or "I'm Coming
Out"... cause I'm not Gay!" Folks, vote that closety closet case and/or
imebecile off the show! Don't allow it to get near the "top three"!
Meanwhile, with Diva Diana highlighting the show, this will be a blockbuster
evening and very exciting with the various musical approaches. Let's see
how many songs will be from the Stonewall Era (1966 to 1969)? The S.V.A.'s expert
Williamson will be 411-ing us! The two-hour show spectacular
starts @ 8 p.m. To be continued tomorrow evening.....
Supremes Note: As just one
example, Phil Collins (a man) had a "Top Ten" song with a remake of The Supremes' #1
song "You Can't Hurry Love"! Okay, two: British rocker Adam Ant (another man)
had a hit single with "Where Did Our Love Go"! Allright, Motowner Junior
Walker (do we hear three men) had a big R&B hit with "Come See About Me". The
Hollies men with their pop single of "Stop!" Hey, and on an album, Stevie Wonder
did a masculine version of "I Hear A Symphony".
And so on and so forth!
Post-Event Note: What song did Miss Butch Chris R. sing?
"The Boss"! OMG! How ultra disco Gay is that?!
Monday, March 12 -- STONEWALL the CLUB:
HISTORIC RE-OPENING
Unfortunately, nearly four decades of GLBT history were desecrated in a year or so
with the Stonewall Club being disgraced by making the legendary club -- a
registered Federal historic site in America -- "the 'Head Quarters' of un-cut Latino
Wednesday nights"! How many women, non-whores, tourists, offended hispanics,
non-GLBT people, youth, non-sex maniacs, et al. do you think that trash scenario
attracted? None! Shame and shunda by the previous Stonewall club owners on
that insulting situation to Stonewall history! Except for the original leader
with punch -- the STONEWALL Veterans' Association ("S.V.A.") -- the entire GLBT
communities traitorously became mum on the sleaze. Why didn't the
ineffective and misguided Gay media expose the shame? Well, all of that is now
thankfully going, going, gone!!!
The new, nice and diverse -- and respectful to Stonewall's real history --
owners of the newly-renovated Stonewall are getting it all together. That's
why they even restored the club's historic name to The Stonewall Inn.
The new decor is also impressive -- the way that The Stonewall would have actually
evolved over the years. In fact, two of the owners, Kurt Kelly and Stacy
Lentz, attended the recent S.V.A. monthly meeting. They provided a perfect
presentation regarding the new Stonewall. Another owner, Bill Morgan, recently had a meeting with S.V.A.'s
Williamson Henderson at the renovating Stonewall Inn! Owner
Anthony DiCicca, who has conferred with WLH
via telephone, will be tonight's unofficial host.
Come to the "Stonewall
Re-Opening" on the 12th of March @ 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. for the first day's
festivities of the New Stonewall Era! Besides all of the fun and reunions, you will
have the rare opportunity to hear the actual "Songs of The Stonewall -- 1969" (c).
Reperesenting the S.V.A. (confirmed) are the following SVA-ers:
Williamson, Storme DeLarverie, Bert
Coffman, Ruth Campbell, Leigh
McManus, Ronny Shea, et al. Besides everything else good, the only
building (structure) landmark representing Gay Pride from the Stonewall Era is
re-opening right on time for the forthcoming Gay Pride Month in June. For more
411, visit www.TheStonewallInn.net.
Friday, March 9 -- TIME
MAGAZINE CALLS the S.V.A. re: 2008 PRESIDENTIALS
Do U know Y? Clue: See the "S.V.A. Prominent Supporters"! The
investigative female political reporter from Time magazine querried whether the legendary
Stonewall veterans organization favored Republican Rudy Giuliani or Democrat Hillary
Clinton as the next U.S. President. Williamson
Henderson asked the reporter: What about the other New Yorker, Independent
Michael Bloomberg? Then, WLH explained in detail that it is much too early in the
process. Williamson clarified that the S.V.A. is not a political group and does not
"endorse" candidates; however, the S.V.A. has non-political avenues of very
effective "support" and, sometimes, "anti-support". [More 411 will
come in Time!]
Wednesday, March 7 -- S.V.A. TESTIFIES at
COMMUNITY BOARD #2
It's not the first time over the decades that the S.V.A. has had to "testify" at
Greenwich Village's Community Board #2 ("CB-2") -- and it's likely not the last!
Once again, the questioning CB-2 is questioning a wonderful community feature
of the City of New York: community-oriented streetfairs! Because the S.V.A.
maintains an annual streetfair permit, we have been invited to participate -- and protect
our own interests as well as vis-a-vis less deserving streetfair sponsors. Besides,
the CB-2 sub-committee has demanded attendance for streetfair sponsors as mandatory -- or
else! Speaking on behalf of the S.V.A. is Treasurer Bert Coffman. He will be backed up by other
SVA-ers, if needed. We traditionally have back-up. The chief
spokesperson on behalf of streetfairs is Todd R.
Berman, owner of Clearview Festival Productions, which is the most
popular streetfairs promoter. The "hearing" location is at N.Y.U.'s Great Room
at 19 University Place at East 8th Street in Manhattan. Time of the potential
hootenanny is @ 6:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 4 -- CONGRATULATIONS to
ANDREW WUERTELE & JESSICA LAPPIN
New constituent congratulations to
S.V.A. supporter and pretty Councilmember Jessica
Lappin and her handsome husband Andrew M. Wuertele -- we know both -- who had a beautiful
baby boy (see photo) on Sunday, March 4th. Baby boy's unique name is
Lucas and he is nicknamed "Luke"! To think
that the S.V.A. wanted Andrew and Jessica to attend Bert Coffman's big birthday
bash dinner just yesterday! Not only may the baby have arrived during Bert's b-day
event but the baby would have been born on Bert's birthday! And,
thanks, Jessica for your recent, fine, supportive letter to the S.V.A. Again,
wonderful congratulations and cheer from all at the S.V.A. [Photo portrait

Saturday, March 3, 2007 -- BERTI's BIG
BIRTHDAY BASH at BRUXELLES BISTRO
This festive occasion is a big 5-course birthday dinner and big birthday
cherry cake for the S.V.A.'s Treasurer Bert
Coffman. Bruxelles Restaurant is located at the Gay corner of Greenwich
Avenue and West 13 Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues in Gay Greenwich Village.
The Gay shindig will be hosted by the Gay host with the most Williamson Henderson. Other
SVA-ers confirmed to attend the private affair are Storme DeLarverie, Ruth
Campbell and Michael Livote. Several
politicos, some people of the arts and a few university professors from N.Y.U. have
promised to stop by during the happening. Stop! Reservations are in the name of S.V.A.!
Cocktails launch @ 5 p.m. There is a special participatory "Dishfest"
for all! "Happy Birthday" is sung @ 8 p.m. To confirm your
attendance, call AnDre at (212)
6-27-1969. The Bruxelles Bistro's phone number is (212) 206-1830. Loosen
your seat belts, it's going to be a dishy night.
Wednesday, February 28 -- S.V.A. WEBSITE:
"UP, UP AND AWAY"
The very popular S.V.A. hit over one-twentieth of a million
"visits" just for the short month of February. Literally, every day of the month
scored on the website's "S.V.A. Top 50 Busy Days".
Saturday, February 24 (evening) -- THE JAMES E.
("JED") DAVIS STORY
Originally a young New York City police officer from
Bedford-Stuyvesant --
his minority neighborhood in Brooklyn -- James E. Davis ("Jed")
found that he even
had to fight bigotry from within the NYCPD. Jed always
advocated, stood his
ground and enlightened and enlivened others. Jed co-founded, with
his brother Geoffrey Davis, the significant "Stop The
Violence" organziation and their annual "Love Yourself" march.
Jed fought the
election odds and was victorious in an
upset win to become a N.Y.C. Councilmember. Vivacious
and popular
Councilman Jed went on to be outstanding and dynamic in that
position.
Jed changed the political, economic, cultural and social climate
of
his beloved New York City. Sadly, he died in the line of
duty in the New
York City Council Chamber on the 23rd of July in 2003.
The Castillo Theater is located at 543 West 42 Street between Tenth and Eleventh
Avenues in Manhattan. Subways at nearby Eighth Avenue are the "A", "C" and
"E". The crosstown 42nd Street bus (M-42) takes you to the
theater's doors. Showtime "one night only" is @ 7 p.m. Tickets
are $10. The box office phone number is (212) 941-1234. For much more 411,
please visit: www.Castillo.org
Saturday, February 24 (afternoon) -- S.V.A. MONTHLY MEETING
Among the many topics are next month's annual Gay Business Expo and the
S.V.A.'s participation, exhibition booth, staffing and displays. Williamson Henderson presides informatively and interestingly
over the meeting. Bert Coffman provides the
monthly and hungry Treasurer's Report. Storme DeLarverie,
the star of the legendary Jewel Box Revue, provides more info
about linking the "JBR" to the S.V.A. Ruthybird Campbell updates the S.V.A. guest
speakers schedule. Michael Livote gives the newsies on public officials regarding meetings. Special attendees include Hal Weiner, S.V.A. Boardmember and longtime

program to maintain communication with councilmembers in all five boroughs of
NYC The S.V.A. has members and/or supporters in all parts of all boroughs.
Councilmember Yassky represents Brooklyn's 33rd district including Brooklyn
Heights and Greenpoint and parts of Park Slope and Boerum Hill. Besides GLBT issues
and SVA support, David is presenting updates with Council legislation that he has
introduced on environment issues and education matters. Business visitors Kurt Kelly and Stacy Lentz, manager

Stonewall Inn. They present S.V.A. with a platinum
sponsorship check. Guest speakers are

Honorary Member of the S.V.A., appears on the longtime cable t.v. show "Eldridge

Councilwoman and an even longer-time friend of Bella! View the close-up,
one-on-one, half-over show on CUNY-TV, channel 75 in New York City. The
show airs @ 4 p.m. and repeats @ 9 p.m. and @ 3 a.m. And, the show

The program includes vintage pictures of Bella!
Wednesday, February 14 -- S.V.A. HONORARY
MEMBER and NYC MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG'S BIRTHDAY
Yes, the New York City Mayor Michael R.
Bloomberg's birthday is on Valentine's Day. No wonder he's such a
sweetheart! Today is his milestone 65th! As in every year since we had
candidate Bloomberg as our special guest leading the 2001 Gay Pride Parade, the
Mayor received a heartfelt birthday card from the S.V.A.
Tuesday, February 13 -- EAST VILLAGE COMMUNITY
VALENTINE'S PARTY
The Bleecker Area Merchants' & Residents' Association ("BAMRA") is sponsoring their
annual Valentine's Party in the East Village. BAMRA's V-party is at Wicked Willy's

Sunday, February 11 -- 14th CONGRESSIONAL POLITICAL FORUM
Congressmember Carolyn Maloney
personally hosts her series of local political forums. Today, however, the
Congressmember must be out of state on a family health matter. Her substitute
host is MBP Scott Stringer. The timely
topic of this forum is the candidates for N.Y.S. Assemblymember in the 65th district
on the Lower Midtown East Side of Manhattan. There are three candidates:
Susan Chamlin (via Krueger), Micah Kellner (via Maloney) and Barry Klein (via Bing). Recently, the new Governor
Eliot L. Spitzer -- an S.V.A. Honorary
Member -- announced the forthcoming appointment of Assemblymember Pete Grannis (who will be present today) to be
the State Environmental Commissioner thus opening his Assembly seat after he is
approved by the legislature in relatively short order. Public officials verified to
attend include N.Y.S. Senators Eric
Schneiderman and Liz Krueger, N.Y.S.
Assemblymembers Jonathan Bing and Brian
Kavanagh and N.Y.C. Councilmembers Dan
Garodnick and expectant Jessica Lappin.
Heading up the S.V.A. delegation is nearby resident and S.V.A. Treasurer
Bert Coffman. The PRIDE Democrats'
attendees are organized by Steven Gradman.
Breakfast foods, coffee and tea are provided. The venue is the
forum auditorium at the N.Y.U. Medical Center at 530 First Avenue and East 31st
Street in Manhattan. The forum starts so early on a Sunday and freezing
morning @ 10:30 a.m. For more 411, please call (212) 987-5516.
Congratulations, again, to the S.V.A.'s Honorary Female
Chairperson and Congressmember Carolyn Maloney on
being honorably chosen as the Chairperson of the U.S. Financial Institutions
Subcommittee.
Thursday, February 8 -- DEATH OF
NEWEST GAY ICON ANNA NICOLE SMITH
The glamorous, legally blonde, zaftig bombshell and openly-fun
actress, model, cover girl and national personna Anna Nicole Smith shockingly died at the young age of 39.
It happened while Anna was visitng in Florida. All of the details are
not clear at this time. "Miss Smith", an untelling name for the exciting Anna,
began her career as the Playboy magazine's "Playmate of the Month" in 1993.
She became known as the hot model for the very popular Guess jeans. ANS's
life also included worthwhile yet mostly unknown facts such as her being the Grand
Marshal for the West Hollywood Gay Pride Parde in 2005. The Gay commmunity was
a significant part of her being as evidenced by all of her Gay friends -- including Gay
male couples -- and her mostly Gay staff. That speaks volumes in real life!
This captivating woman added so much to the life of the world -- frequently at very
needed times. More commentary and 411 to be printed here throughout the next
few months.... The S.V.A. is sincerely saddened by the loss of GLBT iconic Anna
Nicole, who surely had "The Spirit of Stonewall" -- big time! Anna Nicole is
survived by an out-of-it estranged father, a horrendous, intoxicated-looking,
truck-driver type mama (who ANS described as "dumb nasty bitch, Mommie
Damndest") and a beautiful baby girl infant.

Wednesday, January 31 -- S.V.A.
WEBSITE BREAKS RECORD with BUSIEST MONTH
Although not "Gay Pride Month" in the middle of Winter, nonetheless, the
more-than-ever popular S.V.A. website broke all monthly records with nearly 600,000
visits in January 2007! The biggest individual file is "Songs of The Stonewall" #6
namely Diana Ross & The Supremes.
Saturday, January 27 -- S.V.A. MONTHLY MEETING at GLBT CENTER
This is the first STONEWALL Veterans' Association
meeting of the new year 2007! Our 38th! S.V.A.'s theme for 2007:
"Stonewall 38"! The meeting starts @ 4:15 p.m.
S.V.A. President Williamson Henderson
is presiding over this agenda- and planning-packed meeting. Emile Griffith will list the names of public officials that
have met with the S.V.A. in the past two months. Treasurer Bert Coffman will provide the overdue monthly
"Treasurer's Report". Corresponding Secretary Dianne Yodice lists the letters that the S.V.A. has
received in the past month. Recording Secretary Ruth Campbell will announce the impressive schedule
of upcoming guest speakers at the S.V.A. monthly meetings. Ambassador
Storme DeLarverie details outreach plans to
increase S.V.A. supporters for the new year. Liaison Michael Livote is distributing the new 2007 S.V.A.
membership and support forms to those present and copies for friends. We
will also be celebrating an SVA-er's birthday with fresh hot coffee and/or hot tea
and a big cherry birthday cake!
Friday, January 26 -- ASSEMBLYMEMBER ADAM POWELL MEETING with
S.V.A.
N.Y.S. Assemblymember Adam Clayton Powell IV
and the S.V.A. have had an active communication for many years. His district
has an unusually high Gay population (much of it closeted) and, likewise, a uniquely high
incidence of AIDS. Representing the S.V.A. are its president Williamson Henderson and its treasurer Bert Coffman as well as Youth-for-SVA Gina Wright. From PRIDE Democrats is Luis Rivera (from East Harlem) and Luisa Torres (from Spanish Harlem). The Assemblymember is personally presenting his
letter of praise and support to the S.V.A. On a social note, the S.V.A. will
be acknowledging Mr. Powell as being the public official who had the best
holiday party! The meeting place is the Assemblymember's district
office at 87 East 116 Street (double-lane, two-way street) between Madison Avenue
and Park Avenue. The closest train is the #6 subway stopping at
Lexington Avenue and conveniently 116 Street. There is a crosstown bus
(M-116) on 116th Street. Scheduled meeting time is @ 1 p.m.
Estimated outdoor temperature is 17 degrees! ACP's office number is (212)
828-3953. Ask for Pedro!
Monday, January 22 -- S.V.A. MEETING with
COUNCILMEMBER DAN GARODNICK
Confirmed reps from the S.V.A. are Williamson
Henderson, Bert Coffman, Ruth
Campbell and AnDre Christie.
This long-planned follow-up meeting is at Councilmember Dan Garodnick's bright and high-floored (the 20th) district
office at 211 East 43 Street (between Second and Third Avenues) in midtown
Manhattan. Rendezvous time is @ 4:30 p.m. S.V.A. attendees may call
Lindsey A. (also attending) at (212) 818-0580 for
any further 411.
Sunday, January 21 -- S.V.A. WEBSITE
CONTINUES to BREAK RECORDS
This week was the busiest week ever for the website of the STONEWALL Veterans'
Association. The S.V.A. site had nearly 160,000 verified "visits" between
January 15th and 21st, 2007. Congratz!
Sunday, January 21 -- WOMEN'S
KOFFEEHOUSE GUEST: CAROL POLCOVAR, AUTHOR of "MY MOTHER TOLD ME I WAS
DIFFERENT"
This Stonewall-related project, "My Mother Told Me That I Was Different" was ignited
after Carol Polcovar called and met privately with the
STONEWALL Veterans' Association in the last century. As a result of
the luncheon meeting with Williamson Henderson, agreements were reached and plans
were made to interview many "veterans" of the Stonewall Rebellion.
Many informative and some riveting interviews were provided by
members of the S.V.A. such as Williamson, Storme DeLarverie, Jeremiah Newton, Terri
Van Dyke, Charles Snyder, Electra O'Mara, John-Paul Ranieri, Rusty Rose, Dave
West, Sylvia Rivera, Leigh McManus, et al. For years and years this languishing
project had promised to support the S.V.A. They did not. Also promised
was that the Stonewall Veterans interviews would be delivered to the S.V.A. and to
each of the various participating Stonewall veterans. That would be expected
anyway! It never happened despite many requests. Unfortunately
(chronologically), Ivana, John-Paul, Sylvia, Terri, Electra, Charles and
Dave -- all interview subjects -- failed to live long enough to see their
I/V tapes promised by Miss Polkovar. It is troubling that she shops this
program to everywhere she can except where she promised and should have presented it
first: the STONEWALL Veterans' Association -- the folks that ignited the subject
and the project!! Confirmed today are Williamson and Storme. This gathering, ironically hosted by a
S.V.A. member, Rose Giordano, starts at the
GLBT Community Center at 212 West 13 Street off Seventh Avenue @ 3 p.m. Below is
the announcement posted in The Center's "Happenings":
Advance Screening "My Mother Told Me I Was Different"
Carol Polcovar interviews eyewitness and participants
of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion along with
stories about life before Stonewall and what
moved them to act on that fateful day.
Coffee, tea and desserts.
S.V.A. Editor's Note: First of all, "day"? Try night -- real late night!
Secondly, "that" as in one? Try not one but five of them! And, although
it surely implies that SW-Vetz will be interviewed here, on the contrary
and in reality, the I/Vs were done years ago (most in the last century)
and many of the interviewees are now dead! There is no "I/V-ing" today!
Wednesday, January 17 -- COUNCILMEMBER DAVID YASSKY MEETING with S.V.A.
OFFICIALS
The rescheduled meeting conference with Councilmember David S. Yassky -- a loyal Council colleague to the late Jed
Davis, an Honorary Member of the S.V.A. -- has been re-arranged again. Representing
the S.V.A. are three of its officials: lived-in-Brooklyn Bert Coffman, living-in-Brooklyn Ruth Campbell and longtime Brooklynite Keith Lonesome. From PRIDE Democrats is
Brooklyn-residing officer Steven Gradman.
The meeting will be held at the Councilmember's district office at 114 Court Street at Atlantic Avenue
in Brooklyn. The S.V.A. always enjoys, if not prefers, the district offices as
we meet more of the staff and learn more about the various communities.
Via train are the #2, #3, #4 or #5 subways to the Brooklyn Borough Hall station.
The timing is @ 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. If needed, DSY's office phone number is
(718) 875-5200.
Friday, January 12 -- CONGRESSMEMBER CAROLYN MALONEY'S "SWEARING-IN",
FORUM and PARTY
Congratz! The S.V.A.'s longtime Honorary Female Chairperson, Congressmember
Carolyn B. Maloney, is having her public
"Swearing-In" as the newly re-elected 14th District Congressmember. There
is also a discussion forum of the legislative goals of the new
110th U.S. Congress. Confirmed public official guests are Congressmember
Joe Crowley, former Congressmember
Liz Holtzman, Queens Boro President (and oath
administrator) Helen Marshall, Assemblymembers
Jonathan Bing and Brian Kavanagh and
Councilmembers Dan Garodnick, Eric Gioia, Jessica
Lappin and David Weprin.
Confirmed to attend from the S.V.A. are President Williamson, Treasurer Bert
Coffman, Mrs. Mary Twist, Miss Betty
Bristol and Master AnDre Christie --
a fave of CBM! From the Imperial QUEENS of New York is Princess Brooke Lynn and Dr. Dyane
Karron. From PRIDE Democrats is Steven
Gradman, et al. From The Maloneys is
Carolyn's husband Clif (one "f"), eldest daughter
Virginia, Chief-of-Staff Minna Elias, District Manager Juanita Reyes and
Press Secretary Joe Soldivere. CBM's event is held in Astoria in
part of the Queens territory of the Congressmember's district. The Museum of
the Moving Image ("MMI") is the artistic venue. The first parts of the program
(induction and forum) are held in the museum's auditorium. MMI's address
is as follows: 36-01 35th Avenue between 36th and 37th Streets. Directions
via subway are the "N" or "W" trains to the 36th Avenue station or the "R" or "N" trains
to the Steinway Street station. The program begins @ 5 p.m. and concludes @ 7 p.m.
Quality refreshments are served. To contact the museum for more event 411,
call (718) 784-0077. For info on the museum, mainly about movies, visit their
website at: www.MovingImage.US.
Post-Event: After the inaugural reception,
keep celebrating by joining Williamson and AnDre with Dr. Dyane
K and Mary T for dinner and drinx at
the Hollywoodish eatery The Cup Restaurant.
Thursday, January 11 -- "BELLA!": THE MOVIE
It got out in the New York Post today in their popular "Page Six" column that
S.V.A. Honorary Member Liz Abzug is officially
reporting (what we already knew longtime) that former "Cagney & Lacey" t.v. show
actress Tyne Daly will play Liz's famous former
congresswoman and feminist icon mother Bella
Abzug in a movie about "Bella!".
Wednesday, January 10 -- ASSEMBLYMEMBER JONATHAN BING MEETS with the
S.V.A.
Assemblymember Jonathan L. Bing ("JLB") and
the S.V.A. share many political and social events throughout the year. In fact,
we've been at a handful together just in the past few weeks.
Surprisingly, this is our official sit-down with the Assemblymember and an
agenda meeting. Meeting or not, that never stopped JLB from being a regular
supporter of the S.V.A. over the years. Confirmed to attend from the
S.V.A. are officers Williamson Henderson and Bert Coffman plus S.V.A. staffer AnDre Christie.
Location is the Assemblymember's district office at 360 East 57th Street at First
Avenue (entrance on the avenue) in midtown Manhattan. This rescheduled (from
December 22) meeting is @ 2 p.m. For related 411, call JLB
staffers Barry or Keith at (212) 605-0937.
Sunday, January 7 -- N.Y.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL ANDREW CUOMO'S "SWEARING-IN"
CEREMONY and PARTY
Andrew M. Cuomo had
his induction as the 64th New York State Attorney General in Albany on New Year's Day.
To quote AMC, "We've come a long way!" Today's "swearing-in" and significant
speeches are thoughtfully occasioned for the "Downstaters". Special
guests confirmed include, but are not limited to, the following: former N.Y.S.
Governor Mario Cuomo and First Lady Matilda (a.k.a. AMC's parents), former N.Y.C. Mayor
Ed Koch, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer,
Congressmember Carolyn Maloney (revised due to
her ill mother out-of-state), Bronx Boro
President Adolpho Carrion, Queens Boro President
Helen Marshall, Manhattan Boro President
President Scott Stringer, N.Y.S. Senators
Eric Schneiderman, Liz Krueger and Tom
Duane, N.Y.S. Assemblymembers Herman
Farrell, Danny O'Donnell and Hakeem
Jeffries, N.Y.C. Councilmembers Christine Quinn, David
Weprin, Gale Brewer, Eric Gioia, Jessica
Lappin and Dan Garodnick. The
ceremony is held at the great Metropolitan Museum of Art, directed and hosted
by Gay-friendly, former Bella Abzug staffer Harold Holzer. AMC's ace Campaign Director and now
Chief Counsel Joe Percoco personally extended the invitation and arranged
for the S.V.A. contingency. Confirmed to attend from the S.V.A. are
boxing legend Emile Griffith, Williamson Henderson, Bert Coffman, Ruth
Campbell, Leigh McManus, Marlene Ramcharitar, Steven Gradman, Michael Livote, Luis Rodrigo and AnDre
Christie (wearing a designer orange shirt). Quality foods and beverages
is another nice feature of any =AMC= event. This museum is located in the
Upper East Side of Manhattan on fabulous Fifth Avenue at elegant 81st to 82nd
Streets. Traveling there via train, take the #4 or #5 express subways on
Lexington Avenue to East 86th Street. On the local #6 train, get off at the
East 77th Street station. Via bus, take any uptown/downtown bus --
Eastside or Westside -- stopping at 86th Street and the M-86 crosstown 86th Street bus.
The momentous event commences @ high noon. To rsvp, please e-mail =AMC=
Headquarters at SwearingIn@AndrewCuomo.com or
telephone (646) 747-6055. For more Met 411, visit: www.MetMuseum.org or phone
(212) 535-7710.
